Course Description:

The students will gain a thorough understanding of the Math 7 Georgia Standards of Excellence. For more information on the GSE, please visit academics.math.

Texts:

Students are provided with a Volume I and Volume II interactive, write-in textbook. If the textbook is lost or damaged, the replacement cost is $10 per volume.

Online materials from McGraw-Hill are also available.

Materials:

Students will be required to have their agenda, math binder, notebook paper, pencil with eraser, handheld pencil sharpener, Expo markers, glue stick, and a basic calculator (other than cell phone) daily in math class. Some other items that may be needed are: graph paper and colored pencils/crayons. These additional items will be announced in class a day or two in advance and a reminder will also be posted on the blog.

Make-Up Expectations:

Students will have the same number of days to make up any missed assignment as the number of days absent. Students should check the class blog each day that they are absent. In addition, students should check the “Absent Bin” for any handouts. It is the student’s responsibility, not the teachers, to pick up any absent work.

Any classwork turned in one day late will receive a maximum grade of 80%; turned in two days late will receive a grade of 50%; work will not be accepted more than two days late. *Exceptions will be made for excused absences.

Reassessment (Do Over) Policy:

Students scoring below 70% on a unit post-test will be given the opportunity to participate in grade recovery in class. The grade on the new assessment will replace the original grade but shall not exceed 70%. Students may not be given the opportunity to do over homework, classwork, performance tasks, formative assessments, constructed responses, etc.

Blog:

Students should check the class blog each day. If students have questions for the teacher, please email me. Teacher email is checked between normal business hours. No code needed.

The Co-Taught Course Framework: 

The framework and instructional strategies for this class are designed by two teachers working together and sharing the planning, organization, delivery, and assessment of the course content.  Both teachers will be working with groups of students using a variety of differentiated strategies in flexible grouping settings to meet the students’ needs in the classroom
