Fall Bootstrap Conference

Wednesday, October 21

8:00 a.m. Registration Opens

8:00 a.m. Coaches Update

10:00 a.m. General session I

GSSA President Steve Smith welcomes members and guests to the conference and recognizes sponsors and other special guests.

10:30 a.m. Dr. Michael Horn, co-author of the highly acclaimed book, Disrupting Class, will keynote the conference and remain at the conference site to interact with the members of the GSSA/GSBA “Vision for Public Education in Georgia” project planning committee.

Noon GSSA Awards Luncheon

The four finalists for the 2010 Superintendent of the Year Award will be recognized, and the winner of the prestigious Bill Barr Leadership Award will be announced.

1:30 p.m. General Session II

GSSA president Steve Smith introduces State Superintendent Kathy Cox and members of her staff at the Department of Education, who will present information and respond to questions that have been posed by GSSA members.

2:45 p.m. Break

3:00 p.m. General Session III

Superintendents across the state are struggling with budget issues, and many have found creative ways to manage it. During this session, a panel of leaders will share their strategies and give colleagues a “heads up” on issues that have arisen as they have sought to deliver a quality public education to their students while breaking the mold of “how we’ve always done it.”

4:00 p.m. President’s reception

All conference attendees are invited to this reception honoring new superintendents and those who are retiring.

Thursday, October 22

7:30 a.m. GSSA Breakfast and General Business Meeting

Conference attendees are invited to enjoy a buffet breakfast, network with colleagues, and participate in the Association’s business meeting.

9:00 a.m. General Session IV

GSSA president-elect Susan Andrews presides and will introduce Dr. Bill Barr, former executive director of GSSA and current leader of the joint GSSA/GSBA “Vision for Public Education in Georgia” project. Dr. Barr will update members on the critical work of this task force.

10:15 a.m. General Session V

News from the legal front will be presented by GSSA’s long-time friends from the law firm of Harben, Hartley, and Hawkins.

Noon Conference adjournment

1:00 p.m. GAEL Board Meeting

1:00 p.m. Post-conference golf tournament sponsored by American Fidelity Assurance Company – University of Georgia Course
