SLAM Academy’s mission is to provide an engaging, challenging, and supportive learning environment that will motivate all students to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom and prepare them for future successSpecial Education CoordinatorRoles and Responsibilities:The Coordinator (Special Education) is responsible for special education and related services in assigned schools and/or programs. The incumbent will implement systems of leadership, support, and guidance for school and district personnel so that educational programs for students with disabilities are implemented in compliance with IDEA and related federal and state laws, rules and regulations. Builds strong partnerships with parents, school leaders, instructional personnel, and district personnel in order to build support for students with disabilities.Assists students with disabilities to access the state-approved general curriculum and to the maximum extent appropriate, be educated with their non-disabled peers. Implements systems of training, support and monitoring to ensure that students with disabilities are included appropriately in state-mandated assessments.Implements research-based, specially-designed instruction for students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Provides training, guidance, support and monitoring for school personnel to assist schools in implementing special education and related services in compliance with the IDEA and related federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. Ensure students with disabilities are provided services by appropriately trained, credentialed, and effective personnel. Provides effective communication and support to parents of students with disabilities, and other stakeholders, to enhance the educational program provided for students with disabilities.Participates as a member of the School Improvement and Leadership.Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandate Manage scheduling of special education students to maximize student performance.Develop a case management system to monitor and evaluate instruction and service provision for IEP compliance and best practice implementation.Develop IEPs, and provide direct services to students with special needs, as needed.Serve as a resource for information regarding special education services, programs and policies and ensure that procedures are appropriate in relation to state and federal requirements.Support general education teachers and administrators in implementation of appropriate accommodations, modifications, and strategies to meet the needs of students with IEPs.Analyze assessment results to drive instruction and IEP development; report assessment results.Develop and assist with appropriate behavior management strategies for special needs students.Coordinate assessment program for students with IEPs and use assessment data to refine instructional practice.Manage disciplinary process for students with disabilities, including oversight of manifestation determination hearings.Manage relationships with outside vendors to ensure students receive all individually prescribed IEPs services (i.e. Assessments, Occupational Therapy, Language and Speech, etc.)Provide technical guidance and support for SST’s effective use of behavioral support tools (functional behavior assessment, positive behavioral supports, and behavior intervention plans).Develop and provide ongoing professional development for general and special education staff and administrators on best practices and policies related to special education and SST.Timely and accurate preparation and submission of state/federal special education reports.Serve a special education liaison to state of Georgia, including attendance at state meetings and submission of required reports.Collaborate with Principal and 504 Coordinator to develop and implement Response to Intervention.Assign and/or conduct staff meetings to develop IEPs; attend all appropriate IEP meetings (i.e. Amendments, Eligibility Redetermination, Initial Eligibility meetings).Collaborate with appropriate school-based personnel to assure accurate documentation and timely data input/submission for students with disabilities.Review, monitor and meet timelines for IEPs, referrals, initial eligibilities, and re-evaluations.Assist with planning for classroom and testing accommodations for students with disabilities.Provide support to teachers in order to ensure continuous improvement in instructional practices.Maintain current certification in the areas of special education. Maintain professional competence by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.Maintain current knowledge on research supported best practices.Plan/deliver professional learning activities to staff, parents, and others to increase achievement for students with disabilities.Required Qualifications:Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or above from a regionally accredited college or university or a PSC approved institution; Valid Georgia teaching certificate in special education, or have reciprocity eligibility from another state or country.Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Ability to comprehend and follow directives; and,Perform related work as required.CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Must have the appropriate certification for special education programs.
