Idaho Commission for Libraries – We assist libraries to ...

Dear Families,

The new Books to Go program at your school or center is a great way to get you new books to share with your child. The more time you are able to spend sharing books with your child the better prepared for school your child will be. We hope you will read these books more than once and talk about the stories together.

There is a Bookworm handout included with each bag of books. It has songs, fingerplays, activities, and information about reading that we hope will be useful to you. We know you are busy, but hope you can work some of these fun things into your family routine, during bath time, before bedtime, at meals, in the car, etc.

Once you are done reading the four books in the bag your child brings home, just put them back in the bag and exchange them for another bag. The more books you share with your child, the better! Don’t stress if something happens to one of the books. Books that are used and well-loved tend to get torn or dirty. Just try to take care of them as best you can. Report any damage to your child’s teacher and we will replace the book if necessary. There are stickers on the books to identify that they belong to Books to Go and the titles are listed on the content page included in each bag so hopefully they will be easy to keep track of.

Books to Go is sponsored by your local public library and the Idaho Commission for Libraries’ Read to Me program with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. If you have access to the Internet from your home or local library, we also encourage you to check out or your library’s free subscription to TumbleBooks™, a free online animated collection of children’s books, games, and puzzles.

Happy Reading!
