This self-evaluation form will help you determine if you meet the requirements to qualify for a teaching certificate in Manitoba and decide whether you wish to proceed with submitting an application. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: I am a Canadian citizen, landed immigrant (permanent resident in Canada) or hold a

valid work visa. I am authorized to teach in the jurisdiction where I completed my teacher education

program. My teaching certificate has never been suspended or revoked. I have never been convicted of, nor am I presently charged with a criminal offence of

a sexual nature. I have never been convicted of, nor am I presently charged with a criminal offence

involving a minor. I am fluent in English and/or French.

In order to be eligible to obtain a Manitoba Professional Teaching Certificate you must meet all post-secondary education requirements: An undergraduate degree of at least 90 credit hours and; A teacher education program of at least 30 credit hours that included a student

teaching practicum.

In order to be eligible to obtain a Manitoba Professional Teaching Certificate you must also meet all requirements for either the Early/Middle Years or Senior Years Teachable requirements. Your major teachable subject must be different from your minor teachable subject. A list of teachable subjects is available through Professional Certification Unit website. Early/ Middle Years 18 credit hours in a major teachable subject, 12 credit hours in a minor teachable subject 6 credit hours in Math 6 credit hours in a Physical or Biological Science 6 credit hours in English or French 6 credit hours in History, Geography or a combination of History and Geography Senior Years 30 credit hours in a major teachable subject 18 credit hours in a minor teachable subject Note: A credit hour is the basic unit used by a Manitoba university or other approved post-secondary institution for recognition of academic work that applies towards a degree, a diploma or a certificate. In Manitoba 3 credit hours equals approximately 13 weeks at 3 hours per week.
