GC Driving Academy Online Driver Education
For many parents, the idea of their teen taking a driver's ed course and getting behind the wheel is nerve-wracking. When your teen takes the online drivers education course through GC Driving Academy, you can rest assured that they'll learn all the critical aspects of driving that every Idaho driver needs to know.
It is recommended that students work on the program 15 hours per week to finish in two to three weeks. While the student is working through the course have them use the attached observation log to actively observe other drivers.
TO DO LIST
1. APPLY FOR THE PERMIT
The Dept. Motor Vehicles ( DMV) requires the following:
• Student must be aged 14.5 (to the day) before applying for the permit
• Parent MUST accompany student and bring their driver license
• Bring the student’s original Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Photo ID or yearbook photo or school ID or passport and the Verification of Compliance (VOC form) from the public school the student attends
• If student is home-schooled, call 334-8736 to ask for instructions
• If the student wears glasses or contacts, wear them to the DMV as they will be given an eye exam and their photo will be taken for their permit.
• Complete the forms at the DMV and pay them $22.50 for the permit. They will give you a receipt.
• Tell the DMV that you are attending GC Driving Academy
2. REGISTER FOR THE COURSE
• Complete the registration form below and mail it with the tuition ($290.00) to GC Driving Academy, 2606 N. Mitchell St., Boise, ID 83704. Then go to to register and pay $99 for the coursework. You’ll need your permit number when you register.
3. WORK THROUGH THE COURSE
• As the student works through the course, he/she will complete the observation log whenever she/he is a passenger with another driver.
• The student must bring their permit receipt* from the DMV to their first drive
• The student must wear any corrective lenses needed.
• The student must wear closed-toed shoes, demonstrate good personal hygiene and wear clean clothing
• The student must be well-rested and free of any substances or illness that can impair their ability.
• The student must be ready and willing to take coaching and instruction.
• Any no-show or cancellation less than 24 hours in advance is subject to a re-scheduling fee of $80.00
4. SUPERVISED INSTRUCTION PERIOD
• After completing the driver education course, students under age 17 are required to drive with a supervising driver over the age of 21 for six months
5. TESTING
• After the six month period the student takes a behind-the-wheel skills test with a DMV skills tester
• When the student passes this test, she/he takes the written test at the DMV
• When the student passes the written test the DMV will issue their drivers license
5. PARENTAL SUPPORT
• Parents are encouraged to comment on their driving while the student observes, calling attention to the driving scene, vehicle control, signs, signals, markings, traffic, space management (blind spots) and rules of the road. Parents ensure that the student complete the observation log while actively observing as a passenger. Parents will be required to sign off on the observation log certifying that the student actively observed for the minimum of six hours.
