DRESS AND GROOMINGThe district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:Pictures, emblems, or writing judged to be disruptive or potentially disruptive to normal school operations or considered a health or safety hazard are strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to:Tight or revealing clothingAny garment which exposes the bare shoulderLow cut (V or U Neckline tops)Wearing of any kind of oversized jewelryRosary beads worn outside the shirt or blouseStudents may not wear caps or hats or carry them into the campus buildings/classrooms. Student’s hairstyles which represent extremes that may disrupt or distract from instruction. Students are not allowed to color their hair other than normal color.Male’s hair covering the eyebrows and/or long enough to be tucked behind the earsMale’s hairstyles longer in the back than the top of a traditional shirt collarMale – hairstyles that might be distracting are prohibited, including, but not limited to haircuts that are unevenly cut, mohawks, have designs, symbols, Faux Hawk(Fohawks) or long enough to wear in a ponytail or tails sculptured in the hair. Facial hair in the form of a beard, mustache, or side burnsSunglasses unless they are prescribed by a physicianVisible body piercing or body tattoosEar adornments for malesClothing or any item (bandanas, jewelry, etc) worn or displayed that denotes membership of an affiliation in a gang or prohibited clubClothing or any item worn or displayed that advertises or depicts tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or any other substance prohibited under board policy. FNCA(Local)Clothing which is worn with the intent to hide dress code violationsClothing or school supplies with skull images will not be allowedAll students attending Banquete Jr. High will be required to wear the following:SlacksDenim jeans, khaki pants, Capri pants, or shorts may be worn (no basketball shorts).Shorts not to be shorter than 3 inches from the middle of the kneePants must be worn on the waist and are not to sag or fit baggyPants, Capris, or shorts shall be worn to the appropriate size for each studentShould not be of spandex or other form-fitting materialHoles or frays that show skin will not be allowed! Tights underneath jeans to cover holes will be allowed. Holes must NOT be bigger than 2in.ShirtsShirts will not be required to be tucked in, but must meet the following criteria:When student is in normal standing position, shirt length must meet the student’s wristAbsolutely no oversize, baggy, low cut, short shirts, spaghetti strap shirts, or strapless shirts will be allowedGirls shirts must be of high necklinePolo style, button up shirts are allowedMidriff must not be visible when hands are raised above the headSee through shirts must be worn with a tank top underneath. *tank top 3in. shoulder width.Clothes shall be worn to the appropriate size for each student.Prohibited – oversized or immodestly undersizedProhibited – reference to nudity, death, weapons, violence, or obscene or profane slogans, sexual innuendo, inappropriate double meaning.ShoesStudents may wear comfortable tennis shoes, regular shoes, boots, sandalsStudents must wear sock with shoes other than sandals or flip flopsNo student will be allowed to wear steel toe bootsFlip flops may be worn, however if in the opinion of the administrator a student is being disruptive with flip flops he/she will not be allowed to wear that type of shoe to school.The entire staff will enforce the dress code. Students in violation will be sent to the office. (BISD reserves the right to exclude any items of clothing or jewelry deemed distracting and/or dangerous to the educational process.) The principal or designee has the authority to require belts when necessary.The principal, in cooperation with the sponsor, coach, or other person in charge of an extracurricular activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in an extracurricular activity. Students who violate these standards may be removed or excluded from the activity for a period determined by the principal or sponsor and may be subjected to further disciplinary action. (Students must adhere to the rules and constitutions of the extracurricular activity.) Students assigned to the DAEP (Disciplinary Alternative Education Program) may have specific dress code guidelines not addressed above. Dress Code Violation ConsequencesStudents who are not in compliance with the dress code will have one opportunity to correct the problem or call their parents. Students will be placed in ISS until the parent can bring them a change of clothes.Student who receives a second violation will be assigned to 1 day of In School Suspension.Persistent and defiant violations of dress code will result in an out of school suspension.The Principal has the authority to make a ruling on any controversial dress code issue in question. ................
