See the Difference

TrueColor Technology

Microsoft’s image processing technology, TrueColor, provides superior color and brightness in almost all lighting conditions, including low light and backlight. TrueColor Technology sets the correct balance of brightness to help ensure the user’s face is not overexposed or underexposed in a variety of environments — from out on the porch with bright sunshine in the morning to the living room with low light in the evening. It does this through a carefully designed proprietary combination of software and firmware to deliver a great experience.

1080p HD sensor

As Microsoft’s first webcam with a 1080p sensor, LifeCam Studio gives people superior sharpness and image quality in their webcam chats. Since the new sensor is more than two times larger than many of the 720p sensors on the market, more light is let in so people will have a better video experience in all lighting conditions.

Auto Focus

LifeCam Studio also features improved Auto Focus, which automatically keeps video in focus no matter how far the distance from the LifeCam — from four inches to infinity. This is perfect for showing off printed pictures lying around the desk or even a business card for contact information. And the great part about Auto Focus is that it’s built right into the camera and will work right out of the box with LifeCam Studio.

Industrial Design

Even the industrial design is important for maximizing the video quality with LifeCam Studio. The design features an elongated hood and brushed aluminum cylinder base modeled after a high-end camera to protect the 1080p sensor and custom-built lens for better performance. LifeCam Studio is also the first Microsoft webcam to feature a tripod thread — perfect for recording long video captures.

Behind the Scenes

Did You Know?

Better Than Embedded

Most embedded webcams have 1.3MP or 2.0MP sensors and no Auto Focus capabilities, while LifeCam Studio delivers 1080p sensor quality and sharp Auto Focus from as close as 4 inches!

Ask Kurt!

Kurt Wrisley, one of the program managers behind LifeCam Studio, worked to ensure this webcam offered superior high-definition video. He is available for interviews if you are interested in learning more about the creation of LifeCam Studio.
