Assignment: “15 Stories the World May Wish to Hear More About”

Value: 5 points

1. Read the United Nation’s 2007 edition of “10 Stories the World Should Hear More About”. The stories are accessible at: (Click “List of Stories” for 2007).

2. On the map provided (on the website), find and NEATLY label the following places mentioned in the article: Uganda, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zambia, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Sudan. Use BLUE ink to label these places.

3. Imagine that you have been hired by the UN to expand the list by 5 additional stories. Summarize each story in one paragraph. This should come to a total of about 1 and ½ pages. Label the places mentioned in your stories on the world map in RED ink.

Your stories must be concise but also factual and researched. In researching your stories, you may wish to consult the International Herald Tribune (), the New York Times (), or other online newspapers. You may also consult printed books, magazines, newspapers and journals. To receive full credit you must include a bibliography with at least 5 sources (one per story). Each listing in the bibliography must include author, article title, source title, date and page numbers (if available) for full credit.

Important: You should not include trivial, ephemeral or sensationalistic but irrelevant local-news type stories.
