Chapter Essential Question: How can you add and subtract whole numbers and decide if an answer is reasonable?
1. Equal Groups-Groups that have the same number of objects.
2. Factor-A number that is multiplied by another number to find a product.
3. Multiply-When you combine equal groups, you can multiply to find how many in all; the opposite operation of division.
4. Product-The answer in a multiplication problem. 5. Addition-The process of finding the total number of items when two or
more groups of items are joined the opposite operation of subtraction. 6. Array-An arrangement of objects in rows and columns. 7. Commutative Property of Multiplication-The property that states that you
can multiply two factors in any order and get the same product.
Example:2 ? 4 = 8 or 4 ? 2 = 8
8. Identity Property of Multiplication-The property that states that the product of any number and 1 is that number.Example: 5 ? 1 = 5 or 1 ? 8 = 8
9. Zero Property of Multiplication-The property that states that the product of zero and any number is zero. Example: 0 ? 6 = 0
