Holt Pre-Algebra – Chapter 4 – Collecting, Displaying & Analyzing Data

Extended Problem Solving Student Task Card

Writing Objective: S3C3PO1 Write a variety of functional texts (e.g., directions, recipes, procedures, rubrics, labels, posters, graphs/tables).

1. Log in to

2. Scroll and find Holt Middle School Math Pre-Algebra book. Click the Go to the Online Textbook link.

3. Click the Online Edition book.

4. Click on Chapter 4, Collecting, Displaying & Analyzing Data. On the left hand side of the page you will see a black box titled Assessment. Click on Performance Assessment to get to your problem.

5. Use the arrows [pic]in the bottom right hand corner to get to the [pic] section.

6. Task: Now, read the problem. After reading the problem complete steps a through c. Use the Holt Math Journal to record your problem solving steps and your answers. To open up the journal click on the journal button [pic] on the top right hand corner of the problem section. You will get a journal page that will allow you to type and use math symbols to record the steps you used in the strategy you chose to use to solve the problem.

7. When you are done documenting your problem solving steps and answers press the print button [pic] to print out a copy to hand into your teacher.
