Q: When will the authentication model be in place where we won’t have to log in with a user id and password?

Q: How do I get to the search product on the Pfizer intranet?

A: You go to factiva..

Q: Users who are receiving Factiva News in the form of emails. In some cases the emails containing News Dissemination will be detected as Junk Emails by the Microsoft Junk E-Mail Filter.

A: The resolution is to allow all email from to bypass the filter.

In Outlook go to:

Actions->Junk E-Mail-Junk Email Option

Click on the Tab “Safe Senders” and Press the button “Add”

A window will appear. Enter “” and Press OK button.

The entry @ will appear on the list of Safe Senders.

Press the Add button again.

A window will appear. Enter “Email.Global.” and Press OK button.

The entry @Email.Global. will appear on the list of Safe Senders.

Press the OK button and exit the utility.

Q: How do I get to News Pages?

A: On the home page you will see tabs across the top; the News Pages tab is there. Simply highlight and click the link.

Q: On News Pages where do I select the industry to view?

A: The drop down on the top left corner that defaults to United States, click the arrow and you can then select another region or industry.

Q: Can I set up News Pages as my home page?

A: In the top right corner select Tools then Preferences. This will allow you to change the default home page.

Q: Since the default operator is OR can I put in a NOT?

A: Yes you can, if you double click the name of the source or category you want to exclude, it will not it out. This gives you the ability to exclude a source from an entire category. Otherwise you can simply go in and select individual sources.

Q: How would I know that a term is a subject or industry?

A: Under Select sources and Factiva Intelligent Indexing TM you will see the Look Up feature, this feature will query all indexing terms. This will identify the term as a subject or industry.

Q: Can I use 2 NOTs in a query string?

A: Yes you can this will not cause a problem, it should simply eliminate the 2 items you NOTed out.

Q: What is the difference between Bundled E-Mail Delivery and Custom E-Mail Delivery?

A: The custom alert is a single alert as soon as a result comes in versus a bundled alert in the morning or afternoon.

Q: In the Bundled E-mailed deliveries do you get the same stories in 1st and 2nd delivery?

A: You will receive the new articles that have come in after your 1st delivery.

Q: What is the difference between Publication and Web News?

A: Publications are Factiva content and Web News is websites that Factiva crawls and indexes.

Q: Can I set up my own Web News sites?

A: Not at this time, when you are selecting sources you can use the drop down to narrow down the web news that is being searched. If you would like a specific site added you can contact Factiva and ask us to get it included.

Q: Where do I enter my e-mail address for Bundled E-mail Delivery?

A: The default e-mail will be the e-mail address you registered with. To change this you can go under Manage Alerts, Personal Alerts and click the options link next to Bundled Delivery.

Q: When viewing the PDF output if I save locally will I lose the article links or text?

A: No, as part of the PDF functionality it will maintain all links and text.

Q: What do end users do when they get prompted to register or pay when they click on an article link to view?

A: If you are sending alerts please let the end user know they need to register to view the article.

Q: Can the default of 25 personal alerts be increased?

A: This is currently being looked into, but you can also set up a group alert where the limitation is 100.

Q: Can I get more than one topic in a newsletter?

A: Yes you can add multiple sections and can separate each by adding a horizontal line as well you can create a TOC which will allow you to jump between topics by click on the section name in the left hand navigation.

Q: When I click on links throughout the product I get an error that the requested URL can not be retrieved, but when I click the link again it works. Is there a way to stop this?

A: Please contact the customer service 800 number, option 3 for tech support whenever you experience this error.

Q: How do we know what sources we are searching?

A: There are about 10,000 sources from around the world, in 22 different languages. There are about 100 sources related to pharmaceutical health care, we are also in the process of surfacing some 3rd party content. You can see which sources you are searching in the search screen.

Q: Are Pink Sheets, scripts sources, and Health News Daily available in Factiva today?

A: Pink Sheets are not currently available because they will not distribute their content to other aggregators, so there is no timeframe as to when these may become available. The other sources are available in Factiva already.

Q: Republished News, if there are sources you would like to see, is there a way to collect those?

A: In the sources list find the sources you are interested in and pull those into your search, you can also save a generated source list as a personal source list to reuse in future searches.

Q: Can you save a Newsletter as a PDF for e-mail?

A: Yes, once you preview and go to download that is one of your options.

Q: Can you just e-mail the newsletter as is once it’s created without downloading to HTML, etc.?

A: Not right now, but we do know it is a future enhancement.

Q: Can we add our own subjects?

A: No not at the moment, but you can contact Brian DeMarchi if there are topics that you might want to add and he can discuss with internal Factiva departments.

Q: Is the indexing done manually?

A: Some of the indexing is done manually and we also have sophisticated software that has algorithms built in to do the indexing.

Q: Is there an automatic translator for the different languages?

A: No not at the moment.

Q: If we want advanced search capabilities found in , how do we get it if our default is iWorks?

A: You should contact Melida Busch and Brian DeMarchi and they can work on changing the permissions.

Q: Is it possible to be alerted when new terms are added?

A: Yes in the membership circle there is an FAQ that you should subscribe to that lets you know when the indexing is updated.

Q: Is there multi-media capabilities, how are they indexed?

A: Yes, there is a tab within iWorks. The indexing is done the same as all other sources.

Q: What are the default delivery times for the East Coast?

A: Default delivery times for East Coast time on the Morning/Afternoon deliveries:

Q: How do I use Truncation?

A: The asterisk is used at the end of a term. A minimum of three characters must be entered before the asterisk. No values should be entered after the asterisk. There is no limit to the number of characters after the stem word that will be searched.

Example, searching: cat*

Will retrieve terms such as the following to satisfy the search:

cat*

cats

category

catastrophe

categorization

categorisation

There is no “left handed” truncation. As an example, a user cannot type in “*virus” to search for rhinovirus, adenovirus, or enterovirus.

Q: How do I correct Cookie Recognition Issue in Internet Explorer 6.X?

Go to Tools->Internet Options->Security

Highlight Trusted Sites

Click Button “Sites”

Make sure check box “require server verification” is UNCHECKED

Add this web site to the zone *.

Click Add

Click OK

Click OK again.

Close all browsers.

The next time you open a browser this will take effect.

Q: Can I remove duplicates from results set?

A: No, duplicate stories cannot be removed after a search is executed. However, duplicate stories can be excluded from the results set by checking the box on the search screen to “Exclude Republished News.”
