COLOSSIANS #141 (1-6-15) COL. 3, pg. 140

Colossians 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Verses 1- 4 are all one sentence in the Greek.

You have died, APOTHNESKO (αποθνησκω), v. aai; to cease to have vital functions, whether at an earthly or transcendent level, die.

Since we died to these worldly things positionally, we should behave like a dead person to them. Sin should not affect us like it once did.

Romans 6:1-2 Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2) May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? [Read verses 3-13]

2 Corinthians 5:14-15 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one [J.C.] died for all [mankind], therefore all died [Christ died as the proxy or substitute for all humanity]; 15) and He died for all, so that they [believers] who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.

When we died with Christ, we escaped the law’s judgment and the clutches of death.

Galatians 2:20-21 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. 21) "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."

Your life is hidden with Christ in God. KRUPTO, (κρυπτω) v. rpi; to keep from being seen; to hide.

We are abundantly secure:

1 Corinthians 3:23 …and you belong to Christ; and Christ belongs to God.

"Hidden with Christ" is a statement of our eternal security in Christ, we are secure and safe in Him. The perfect tense of the Greek verb "is hidden" means that our life was hidden at a point in the past with results that go on forever. At the point we believed in Christ for salvation, eternal life began and goes on forever.

Philippians 3:18-20 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, 19) whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things. 20) For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

We have been taken out of the first Adam and placed in Christ. We are now in Christ. Since we are in Christ, we should live out His life and let His fullness be lived out through us.

COLOSSIANS #142 (1-8-15)

"Dead reckoning" is a nautical term. When a captain cannot make astronomical calculations because of cloud covering, he must use "dead reckoning" to properly find his place in the ocean.

"Dead reckoning" gauges the ship's location from the records of its progress made in the log book.

The Christian's log book is the Bible. There we find our position in Christ from what God has gone on record to say.

We need not consult our feelings. We do not evaluate circumstances. We just calculate what God did for us in Christ. Grace Notes p. 112

When the Caesar threatened to take the life of John Chysostom (a preacher, 349-407 AD) unless he renounced Christ, he said, "You cannot, your Majesty, for my life is hid with Christ in God."

We are not secure in God by what we do but by what He has already done and continues to do.

COL. 3, pg. 141

NKJV 1 Peter 1:4-5 [We have] an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5) who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

Christ is the believer’s life: "I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me" (Gal. 2:20). He is the principle and end of the Christian’s life. He lives in us by his Spirit, and we live to him in all we do, "To me to live is Christ" (Phil. 1:21).

The believer’s life may be hidden now, but it will be become obvious to all when Christ returns at the 2nd Advent.

Is revealed, PHANEROO (φανεροω) v. aps; to cause to become visible, revealed, or exposed publicly.

Some associate the rapture with Christ being revealed, but we will be raptured so fast, “in the twinkling of an eye” that the unbelievers remaining on earth will not see it.

Christ will be revealed to the C.A. believers who receive their resurrection bodies, but neither them, nor Christ, will be revealed to those on earth at that time.

Why is the subjunctive mood used here?

“The subjunctive mood is used in a subordinate clause to imply a future reference and therefore it is a potential subjunctive from the standpoint that the aorist subjunctive and the future tense have approximately the same morphology and they do have the same concept. So it is used to indicate a future event but not an uncertain future event. The culminative aorist plus the subjunctive indicates the certainty of this future event, the second advent of Christ or the manifestation of bride and groom to the earth."

R.B. Thieme Jr. Colossians notes

There may be another possible reason; the subjunctive may have been used because Paul didn’t know for sure if the 2nd Advent would occur during his lifetime.

Then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

PHANEROO (φανεροω) v. fpi; to cause to become visible, reveal, expose publicly.

Notice that the mood of the verb here is indicative, not subjunctive. That means that there is no doubt that we will be revealed with Him in glory.

Before C.A. believers can be revealed together with Christ at the 2nd Advent, certain things must occur:

1. They must be raptured, (1 Thess. 4:14-18)

2. They must receive a resurrection body.

Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; 21) who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory…

3. They must experience the Judgment Seat of Christ, (2 Cor. 5:10).

4. The tribulation must run its course, (Rom. 11:25-26).

5. The body of Christ, C.A. believers on earth must become the bride of Christ in heaven. It also appears that the Wedding Supper will take place in heaven before Christ mounts up on Pegasus, (Rev. 19:7-11).

COLOSSIANS #143 (1-13-15)

Believers have a greater destiny than earth, our job is to prepare ourselves and others for what is coming next. The danger is, we can become so preoccupied with the things of this earth that we get sidetracked from what is most important.

COL. 3, pg. 142

Why focus so much on things of this earth when our Lord is in heaven? Our true home is there, our loved ones who are believers are there, and our inheritance is there. The best is yet ahead for us, so why not focus on it?

We need to cultivate a taste for eternity and fellowship with God. We do that by the study of God's Word. Most believers have either never developed a taste for eternity or have lost it because they lost their appetite for God’s Word.

Read: Romans 8:18-25

COLOSSIANS #144 (1-15-15)

2 Timothy 2:8-13 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, 9) for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned. 10) For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.

“Since Paul and the elect are already saved in the sense of final deliverance from damnation, it is evident that he speaks of the future salvation “with eternal glory” (i.e. honor).”

Joseph Dillow, Final Destiny, p. 1012.

Luke 20:35 uses the phrase, “those who are counted worthy to attain…to the resurrection from the dead”.

Some will be worthy of their resurrection, but most will not. Mature believers who have remained faithful under pressure and undeserved suffering will be considered to be worthy of the resurrection and the fullness of salvation which includes glory, honor, and rewards. They are the ones who obtained salvation/deliverance in time from a wasted miserable life by consistently learning and then applying the Word of God to their circumstances.

11) It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12) If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us; 13) If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

He cannot revoke imputed righteousness or eternal life which are gifts (Rom. 11:29), nor can He void His phenomenal promises such as:

1 Peter 1:5 [believers] who are protected [kept] by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Read: 2 Thess. 1:3-12

Everyone suffers on this earth:

Job 5:7 For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.

What is most important is “why” we suffer:

1 Peter 4:12-14 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; 13) but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the

revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation. 14) If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

COLOSSIANS #145 (1-20-15)

The theological portion of the epistle ends here.

Colossians 3:5-4:6 focuses more on how to execute the Christian way of life.

COL. 3, pg. 143

“The second part of the epistle falls into three logical groupings. Although uneven in both number of verses devoted to them and the lasting significance of the message, they each contribute to Paul’s thought uniquely. The first section describes individual and corporate responsibilities (3:5–4:1). The second section exhorted the Colossians to be careful witnesses (4:2–9); and the third, finishes the epistle with miscellaneous greetings (4:10–18).”

Richard R. Melick, Philippians, Colossians, Philemon, vol. 32, The New American Commentary (Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 1991), 285.

Colossians 3:5 Therefore consider [v. aam] the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

The “Therefore” in this verse is important because it ties back to being revealed with Christ in glory. That should grab the attention of every believer.

(NKJV) Col. 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth:

(ESV) Col. 3:5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:

(NET) Col. 3:5 So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth

Consider, NEKROO, (νεκροω) v. aam; to deaden or cause to cease completely or put to death.

The point is, we are not to go on living as though we are still alive to sin when in actuality they are not. And why should we, God has already taken care of this when we retroactively died with Christ, but Christians are to know this, count it to be true, and act accordingly (Rom. 6:5–14).

It is very important to know what Christ’s death means regarding sin.

“When a believer accepts Christ, a death takes place. In the spiritual reality, the believer “went to the cross” with Christ, was buried with Christ, and arose a new person. That ended any obligation to sin and its demands. The first aspect of victory over sin is to know the reality of the Christian experience. Death with Christ is the foundation.”

The New American Commentary (Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 1991), 287.

If you don’t believe that your old self that was enslaved to your OSN was crucified, then you will never have power or victory over sin. You will excuse sin in your life because you think it is something you can’t help but do. You’ll blame your sin on your OSN when in fact, it no longer has absolute power over you. So it’s your fault, not your Old Sin Nature’s. With the Holy Spirit’s help, you CAN diminish your sins.

When believers sin, the awful thing that happens is that our harmony and fellowship with God is broken… disrupted. That is not to discount the horrible consequences and pain that sin causes, but the point is, our relationship with God should be more important than satisfying our desires.

He is a one-on-one God who wants to have a relationship with us that surpasses everything else in our lives. Our goal is to reach this place where our relationship with Him is more important to us than anything else, and when that happens, our happiness, inner contentment, and peace will be over the top.

We will not be able to escape from the sin patterns we have developed in our lives until we recognize that fact. We have to get to the point where it is more important for us to maintain our fellowship with God than it is for us to sin. It is a very powerful motivation. This is where we experientially put our earthly nature to death and have victory over sin.

We have another motivation not to sin and that is our Personal Sense of Eternal Destiny. It is no accident that verses 1-2 talk about “things above” and not “on things of the earth” right before we have a list of commands.

One reason we want to continue our faithfulness to the Lord is because we want super grace blessings in eternity.

COLOSSIANS #146 (1-22-15) COL. 3, pg. 144

Paul presented three lists of five things in vs. 5, 8, & 12.

Verses 5 and 8 have a list of five vices each and verse 12 has a list of five virtues.

Members, MELOS (μελοs) n. n. apn; a part of the human body, member, part, or limb.

Paul used this word often, it is found 34 times in the N.T. and 29 times of those are found in Paul’s epistles.

“Paul seems to have been referring generally to all facets of a person’s being, identifying them as members. The unifying idea between the physical and attitudinal definitions of the term is that the members are agents through which persons express themselves.”

The New American Commentary (Nashville: Broadman & Holman Publishers, 1991), 289.

Now Paul starts with the imperatives, first, he laid a substructure of positional truth because Bible Doctrine always comes first.

Before we can obey the imperatives, we must know what they are; then we must believe it is to our benefit to obey them; then obedient behavior will follow. So it’s belief [mental], then behavior, principle, then practice; creed, then conduct; attitude, then action. If our attitude is bad, our actions will be bad as well.

Our position is the result of justification. Our condition is the result of our decisions. Our position is God's responsibility. Our condition is our responsibility.

Immorality, PORNEIA (πορνεία) n. asf; unlawful sexual intercourse, prostitution, un-chastity, or fornication.

Mark 7:20-21 "That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. 21) "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries…

1 Corinthians 6:18 Flee immorality [fornication]. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

Ephesians 5:3-4 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; 4) and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

This word in the NKJV is translated “fornication” which is seldom used these days and is even more often mocked.

It wasn’t that long ago where fornication was a serious matter. The Mosaic Law condemned it with the punishment being execution by stoning to death.

Most people today believe that any sexual activity between two consenting adults is fine. They don’t have to be married, in fact they can be of the same sex.

If you want to know the moral state of our country, consider the map:

In today’s headline: Witches Tie Knot in UK's First Same-Sex Pagan Wedding Two male witches have tied the knot in the UK's first pagan same-sex marriage.

In 2005 and 2006, the United States pornography industry generated $12.62 and $13.33 billion in revenue respectively. This encompassed video sales and rentals, internet, cable, pay-per-view, in-room, mobile, phone sex, exotic dance clubs, novelties, and magazines. When these revenues are taken in tandem with the massive availability of free pornography, the magnitude and impact of pornography is truly staggering.

COL. 3, pg. 145

The number of adult-pay websites is growing rapidly.

In 2001, there was 70,000-74,000 adult-pay websites (NY Times, 2001; The Guardian, 2002). In 2002, it was estimated that there was as many as 100,000 pornographic websites hosted in the US, 400,000 globally (The National Academies Press, 2002). In 2004 there were nearly 1.6 million (SignOnSanDiego, 2004). Each site hosts multiple web pages, sometimes numbering in the hundreds. These stats do not count the not-for-profit sites.

In 2001, a study by social psychologists at the London School of Economics showed that nine out of 10 children, ages 11-16, had viewed pornography on the Internet (The Guardian, 2002). In 2001, 70% of online youth, ages 15-17, said they had accidentally stumbled across pornography online.

In 2006, there were 68 million daily pornographic requests on Internet search engines, 25% of total search engine requests (TopTenREVIEWS).

Impurity, AKATHARSIA (ἀκαθαρσία); n. asf; a state of moral corruption, uncleanness, vileness, impure motives. Fornication is an example which is a universal sexual sin.

Galatians 5:19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality.

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the marriage bed is to be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

Passion, PATHOS (πάθος) n. asn; experience of a strong desire, passion, or inordinate affection, usually sexual.

COLOSSIANS #147 (1-27-15)

Romans 1:26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 4) that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5) not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God;

Passion here refers to uncontrolled and habitual lust. When lust goes unchecked, a passion for what is forbidden arises. Lust encourages passion, and passion produces more perverted lust. If you don’t control your desires, they will control you!

HOW CAN YOU CONTROL YOUR DESIRES?

1. Ask God for help. You can’t conquer it under your own power. Phil. :6

2. Gal. 5:16 Walk by the spirit and you won’t fulfil the desires of the flesh.

3. Don’t put yourself in compromising circumstances like watching porn on the computer or jumping into the backseat of a car. Take yourself out of them. A few moments of passion can ruin your life.

4. Keep learning doctrine so your relationship with the Lord will be more important to you than fulfilling your lusts.

5. Keep concentrating on pertinent doctrine [like impersonal love] that will neutralize any inordinate desires [to snub, to get revenge, to gossip, to mentally murder somebody].

6. If you yield to temptation, don’t throw in the towel and say “It’s no use”. Rebound and keep taking in the Word and keep asking God to help you.

Evil, KAKOS (κακοs) adj. asf; being socially or morally reprehensible, bad, or evil, usually sexually.

Desire, EMTHUMIA (ἐπιθυμία) n. asf; a desire for something forbidden or simply inordinate; craving, or lust.

COL. 3, pg. 146

(KJV) “evil concupiscence” is ardent, usually sensuous, longing.

This word can be used as a craving or longing for something good, however it doesn’t carry that meaning here.

Romans 8:5-8 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh [no peace], but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6) For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7) because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8) and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

God wants us to deal decisively with uncleanness and vulgarity on the authority of the Word of God. Lewd talk and gestures can become a habit and lead to indecency.

COLOSSIANS #148 (1-29-15)

Now we have the first sin listed that does not have a sexual connotation to it so it seems somewhat out of place.

Greed, PLEONEXIA (πλεονεξια,) n. asf; the state of desiring to have more than one’s due; greediness, insatiableness, avarice, or covetousness.

It is the longing for something that belongs to someone else or placing supreme value on something not (yet) possessed. As used in this context, it is a serious sin as it represents a strong movement of desire toward something that is out of God’s will for you.

Usually greed is associated with money but a person can be greedy for just about anything. Greed is a symptom of not being content with what you have. God has provided for you. It is characterized by wanting more, and when you get more, it’s never enough.

Notice that Paul used these same sins in the same order in the following verse that he used in our current verse, Col. 3:5:

Ephesians 5:5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

The word “covetous” is very similar to “greedy” in English as well as in the Greek, Col. 3:5, PLEONEXIA, and in Eph. 5:5, PLEONEKTES. They essentially have the same meaning. Greedy or covetous people are not satisfied with God nor with the things He blessed them with. They reject God and worship something created rather than the Creator as we’ll see in Rom.1:21-32.

Which amounts to idolatry… This verse is equating greed with idolatry. But greed in this verse does not necessarily refer to a lust for money.

Idolatry, EIDOLOLATRIA (εἰδωλολατρία), n. nsf; a compound word meaning to worship an idol, EIDŌLON, “idol” + LATREIA, “worship” or “service”; image-worship, idolatry, or divine honor paid to any created object. It is the worship of anything or person other than God.

Idolatry is the worship or adoration of anyone or anything other than the Lord God. Anything can become an idol; it doesn’t have to be a graven image. It could be a person, a sports team, money, power, fame, an award like American Idol, Academy Awards, Olympic Gold Medal, or illicit sex. Sexual immorality and idolatry are strongly connected in the Bible as we see in our verse.

The typical idol-worshiper in biblical times committed both a religious sin and a sexual sin whenever he participated in specific religious ceremonies. This was especially true when the religion featured cultic-ritual prostitution, like the worship of Aphrodite, the love-goddess of Corinth.

The first and second commandments are directed against idolatry of every form.

COL. 3, pg. 147

Exodus 20:3-4 [THE 10 COMMANDMENTS] You shall have no other gods before Me. 4) "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.

God hates idolatry because it robs Him of the glory and praise that is rightfully His. The extermination of the Canaanites was the punishment for their idolatry, Deut. 12:29-31.

COLOSSIANS #149 (2-3-15)

In Romans 1:21-32, idolatry comes first and then all the myriad of disgusting sins.

So the reason greed amounts to idolatry is this, when one worships or idolizes someone or something other than God, he is never satisfied and becomes greedy for something more. Of course he will never be satisfied because only God can satisfy our deepest desires and longings.

Those adult and mature believers do not place anything in their lives above God have crucified the flesh. Every time they yield to God rather than yielding to their sinful desires, they crucify the flesh.

Galatians 5:24-25 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25) If (1st) we live by the Spirit, let us also walk (v. pas) by the Spirit.

Colossians 3:6-7 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, 7) and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.

The first and second commandments are directed against idolatry of every form.

Exodus 20:3-4 "You shall have no other gods before Me.

In *Romans 1:18-28, idolatry comes first and then a list of disgusting sins. Because they didn’t honor God, their speculations were futile and their mind, like a vacuum cleaner, sucks in foolishness and lies. Not believing the truth, not accepting God, they will become idolatrous, seeking fulfillment from somewhere else, from the lusts of their flesh and impurity, they’ll believe the false, becoming fools, and God turns them over to it. They receive dishonor for rejecting God.

The Apostle John ended his first epistle with these words:

1 John 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

So the reason greed amounts to idolatry is this: when one worships or idolizes someone or something other than God, he is never satisfied and becomes greedy for something more. Of course he will never be satisfied because only God can satisfy our deepest desires and longings.

Satisfaction and true contentment come only from a personal relationship with God. Intimately knowing Him destroys our idols and breaks our addictions and our need for something more disappears.

Our problem is not needing something more. Our problem is that we need to change our deepest desire into wanting more intimacy with Him.

When you do not place anything in your life above God, you have crucified the flesh. Every time you yield to God rather than yielding to your desire to sin, you crucify the flesh. Mature believers do this consistently.

(NASV) Galatians 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

(NKJV) Galatians 5:24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh…

COL. 3, pg. 148

The colored words above are not found in the Greek text, however, they are necessary in the English to read smoothly. They may cause some to think that this verse is referring to eternal salvation. But these words are used in an experiential sense. They have nothing to do with eternal salvation. The verse below demonstrates that we are Christ’s/God’s through faith.

Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

This verse refers to an experiential crucifixion which is done by the believer when he refuses to yield to sin.

Galatians 5:25 If (1st) [Since] we live (pai) by the Spirit [filling of the H.S.], let us also walk by the Spirit.

Walk, STOICHEO (στοιχεω), v. pas; to be in line with a person or thing considered as standard for one’s conduct; to hold to, agree with, follow or to conform; to march. This is only a potential!

This word includes the meaning of conforming to a standard which is B.D. Consider the four other times it is used in the N.T.

Acts 21:24 …walk orderly, keeping the law

Rom. 4:12 …follow in the steps of the faith

Gal. 6:16 …walk by this rule

Phil. 3:16 …keep living by that same standard

Marching takes more concentration and discipline than walking. There are specific rules that must be stringently followed when marching that do not apply to walking. Believers are to concentrate on the teaching of the Word of God and then discipline themselves to march according to its mandates.

COLOSSIANS #150 (2-5-15)

If we are to steer clear of covetousness and greed which amounts to idolatry, we must:

(NET) Colossians 3:5 …put to death whatever in your [our] nature [which] is worldly…

Colossians 3:6-7 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the sons of disobedience, 7) and in them you also once walked, when you were living in them.

It is because of the disobedience of believers who commit the type of sins mentioned in verse 5 that they receive the wrath of God. Today, the sins in verse 5 are referred to as "vices" and are routinely tolerated, but God calls them “sins” and He does not tolerate them.

Upon the sons of disobedience… is talking about believers who are going back into their old wheelruts or patterns of sin and human good. “Disobedience” is not found in some translations because these words are not included in a couple of earlier manuscripts. See John 3:36 which is horribly translated in the King James. The word “obey” is not there. This verse is speaking about unbelievers’ refusal to believe in Jesus Christ. They are obstinate about not believing.

But sons of disobedience in this Colossians passage pertains to believers. Here is another verse that has absolutely nothing to do with salvation but is addressed to believers, talking about them:

Ephesians 5:5-6 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. 6) Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Such immoral, impure believers are not going to be inheritors but will be disinherited at the Judgment Seat of Christ for living their lives under the control of their old sin and human good natures. All of the words in red are also used in Col. 3:5-6. These two passages are so similar.
