WHO MADE GOD?

Tonight we had our first class in VBS.

There are two of us who teach ages 6-9.

One question a child asked was "Who made God?".

We are asking for some advice or an answer of some sort.

Thanks for your time and may God be with you on this one.

Dear Jean & Students:

I think it is best answered by reading the beginning of the book "And God Said" by Martha S. Riedel.

After reading these paragraphs your class should have a pretty good idea of who God is and how powerful and awesome He is.

"This is the story of beginnings. It is the story of how the earth and sky and stars were made. It is the story of people; of how they began and why they were made.

First there was God.

God never had a beginning. He always lived, and He always will go on living. He IS life. No beginning and no end means God is eternal.

God knows everything. he knows everything about all the things He made. He named the planets and moons in the dark, starry sky. He sees when a tiny sparrow hurts its wing and falls from the air. he hears the cries of small babies. Nothing is hidden from Him.

God knows all the people of the world. Kings who rule many lands; and ordinary people; rich people; poor people ~ He knows them all. He knows if people are good or bad. He hears the words of their lips. He knows you. He counts the hair on your head. He sees when you wake up in the morning, and when you go to bed at night.

God knows what happened long ago and everything that is going on right now. He knows what will happen tomorrow and every day forever and ever, as long as time will last.

God is powerful. He is strong and mighty. Even the mighty waves of the sea obey His voice. When He tells a storm to stop, the clouds stop pouring rain, and the earth becomes still. He commands the wind and tells it where to blow. When He told the ground to grow flowers and trees, they sprang up. He rules everything He made.

There is only one God. He is King. No one is greater than He is. There are no laws to tell Him what to do. He does whatever He pleases, and no one can judge Him.

He does things no one else can do. When he made the world, He made it out of nothing. He did not use wood or bricks, and He did not need hammers and nails. he made it by Himself and without any help. he did not work to make the world. he spoke; and at the sound of His voice, the world was made.

God is good. Everything He made was good.

Long before He made anything, God had a decree. A decree is a plan of action made by someone who is in power. God planned everything He would make, and how He would do it. He planned the world. he planned the events of history and decided everything that would happen from the first day forward.

God's degree will never change. No one is more powerful than God, and nothing can change it. His plan will remain firm, just as it was from the start, until everything in it has been completed. Why did God decide to create things and to make things happen in a certain way? He did it because He wanted to. And what He made please Him. How did He do it? He did it by His own power and knowledge and wisdom.

This is the story of God's creation."

"And God Said: by Martha S. Riedel

Scripture tells us:

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.

Genesis 1:1

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,

And by the breath of His mouth all their host.

He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;

He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

Let all the earth fear the Lord;

Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.

For He spoke, and it was done;

He commanded, and it stood fast.

Psalm 33:6-9

Children Explain God

One of God's main jobs is making people.

He makes them to replace the ones that die so there will be enough

people to take care of things here on earth.

He doesn't make grown-ups, just babies. I think because

they are smaller and easier to make. That way, He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them to talk

and walk, He can just leave that to mothers and fathers.

God's second most important job is listening to prayers.

An awful lot of this goes on, since some people, like

preachers and things, pray at times besides bedtime.

God doesn't have time to listen to the radio or TV on

account of this.

God sees everything and hears everything and is everywhere,

which keeps Him pretty busy. So you shouldn't go wasting

His time by going over your parent's head asking for something

they said you couldn't have.

Atheists are people who don't believe in God. I don't think

there are any in Chula Vista. At least there aren't any who

come to our church.

Jesus is God's Son. He used to do all the hard work like

walking on water and performing miracles and trying to

teach the people who didn't want to learn about God.

They finally got tired of Him preaching to them and they

killed Him.

But He was good and kind like His Father and He told

His Father that they didn't know what they were doing

and to forgive them and God said OK.

His Dad (God) appreciated everything that He had done

all His hard work on earth so He told Him He didn't

have to go out on the road anymore, He could stay in

heaven. So He did.

You can pray anytime you want and they are sure to hear

you because they got it worked out so one of them is on

duty all the times.

It is good to know He's around you when you're scared

in the dark or when you can't swim very good and you

get thrown into real deep water by big kids.

Since He hears everything, not only prayers, there must

be a terrible lot of noise in His ears, unless He has thought

of a way to turn it off.
