Besides competition and camaraderie, the Red Hoffman Cup Matches are well known for the quality of the clubs that make up the competition. We are blessed with an extraordinary lineup of 32 clubs, each offering distinctive and appealing facets, ranging from high-level competitions, to the personality traits that mark their membership, to the often colorful history that each club adds to every day.

One of the most fascinating qualities of our clubs is the pedigree of their golf courses. HCM courses reflect an array of most of the finest architects who have ever laid out a par four. Today's greats, like Tom Fazio and Rees Jones, share the list of HCM architects with most of the finest designers ever.

The relatively old, established history of golf in northern New Jersey has blessed us with some wonderful "classic" courses. That same history effectively pushed the bulk course development of the last 50 years to the less expensive South and West. Nonetheless, we are able to play an amazing array of great courses in the HCM.

In evidence, every year, Golfweek magazine creates various lists of what they consider the United States' top courses in several categories. Its "Best" series includes "Best Modern Courses" (built in 1960 and later) and "Best Classic Courses (built before 1960).
