Technology

SAISD was recognized in 2019 as one of the fastest-improving districts in the state. In almost

every grade level, the District either met or outperformed statewide student achievement

gains over the past two school years.

CONNECTIVITY & INFRASTRUCTURE

SAISD has deployed over 19,500 hot spots since March 2020in addition to installing 80 miles of fiber-optic cable connections.

DEVICES

We have purchased over 40,000 devicesover the past year, which has helped us achieve a 1:1 student-to-technology District ratio.

Dual Language at SAISD began with two schools in 2016 and has expanded to 61 schools for the

2021-2022 school year!

? We have expanded and are sustaining best-inclass Dual Language PK-12 programs in every neighborhoodserved by SAISD.

? By fall 2021, six feeder patterns will offer Dual Language programs all the way from elementary school through high school. By the fall of 2022, all feeder patterns will offer the full range of Dual Language programs.

? In fall 2021, six high school programs will include opportunities for Dual Credit through The University of Texas at San Antonio.

In addition to Dual Language learning, SAISD students learn about different cultures. Scan the QR codes to learn more about two

HIGHLIGHTS FROM

Fine Arts

Every neighborhood studentin SAISD has

access to visual arts and music programs, which

could include art, dance, theater, band, choir,

mariachi, orchestra, or steel drum ensemble!

? Students competing have had great success at UIL and other regional and state-level contests, with six neighborhood high schools winning a First Division at UIL Marching Contest.

? We recently invested over $1 million in instruments, equipment, and uniforms.

? We are proud to say that all neighborhood high school choir programs have a quality baby grand in their classroom, and all orchestra, choir, and band programs received new tuxes and dresses within the last three years.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM Career & Technical Education

By fall 2021, every neighborhood high school will have a program allowing students to earn

as many as 45 college hours or an associate degree in specialties including technology, cybersecurity, business, aerospace, engineering, manufacturing, welding, or construction.

MORE SENIORS GRADUATING EVERY YEAR WITH INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION

Note: in 2019, the state expanded the list of possible certifications from approximately 70 to 200.

Early College High School programs and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs allow students the opportunity to earn credit that transfers to a variety of colleges and universities.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM

Transportation

For the past three years, all SAISD school buses

have had student Wi-Fi, identical to what is

offered in the classroom. Wi-Fi has allowed us to

extend our classrooms to our bus fleet, allowing

our students to learn everywhere.

? All District buses have a student identification badge system to keep students safe. Guardians can see when their children get on and off the bus. All SAISD buses also have GPS so families know in real time when their child will get picked up.

? Our Rolling Readers buses target elementary and middle schools to encourage students to read. Bus drivers play an audio book, complete with sound effects, and bus monitors engage students with questions about the story. We are the only school district in San Antonio with this unique program.

? SAISD's propane school bus program - The Clean, Green, Yellow Bus Machines - received an SA Sustainability Award. We are going greener and cleaner!

FEATURED IN TEXAS MONTHLY

At its peak in August, 170 our bus drivers distributed 25,000 children's meals a day. Use the QR code to read about three of these drivers and how the District ensures the food and social needs of our students are met during COVID-19.

Child Nutrition

Meals for all children, not just our children.

When COVID hit last spring, SAISD-made

meals were made available to all children in

the San Antonio community via curbside and

bus delivery. We served over 2 million meals

from spring 2020 through August 2020 to

children across San Antonio.

? SAISD has a partnership with the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) at campuses Districtwide that helps our staff develop fresh and healthy food options for school menus, made from scratch.

? All Child Nutrition Department cooks and managers receive annual training at the CIA under the direction of CIA and District chefs. (Yes, we have professional chefs at SAISD!)

? We were recognized by Children at Risk as one of the top districts in the region for School Food Rankings.

STUDENT-APPROVED MENU OPTIONS

Pre-COVID, SAISD hosted its yearly Food Extravaganza event during which students from around the District tasted and rated various foods that were being considered for District menus. We want to get these student food critics' opinions to ensure we are serving nutritious and delicious food that appeals to our students' palates.
