[pic]Global warming is one of the great challenges of our time – almost as much a challenge to understand as to figure out what to do about it. Is it really happening? Is it caused by human activity? Is it a minor issue or does it threaten our very survival? Should we learn to live with it or take drastic action? If we are to take action, should we switch to solar power? Nuclear power? Sequester carbon dioxide? Something else?

There is no lack of information and opinion on all of these questions. Your job is to sort through it and develop an informed opinion about what should be done. To get you started, we have provided a list of seven web sites below for you to analyze. Rather than typing in the complex URLs, you can link to them from the course web page version of this exercise. You should rate each of them in the five categories listed and justify any really low scores. Then pick one or a combination of them and write a short paper (about five and no more than seven pages double spaced) analyzing it and its point of view in greater depth. The paper should have a full bibliography of the sources you used in the analysis (at least three beyond the web site or sites you are analyzing, and use books and periodicals as well as the web). Be sure that you put the analysis into your own words and if you take anything verbatim (more than five consecutive words) put it in quotes and give the source. (If we are suspicious, we will use the “Turnitin!” software to check for unattributed sources in your paper.)

Turn this worksheet in separately from your paper.
