Learn Their Names and Bus Stops!

(For example: (Student) “Garry Puetz (Driver) “Good morning, Mr. Puetz: or “Good afternoon, Garry” or “Hello, Garry.” This should continue until all students’ names are known and correctly used.

Students must say their first and last name before asking questions or talking with the driver the first week of school. Driver will repeat last name of student with appropriate title in response. (For example: (Student) “Garry Puetz, Mr. Jones, may I sit with my friend on the bus?” (Driver) “Mr. Puetz, you may sit there if you want your assigned seat to be there.” After the first week, only the driver need use the student’s name.

Kindergarten students (and students who are new to school bus riding or have special needs) should be seated in clear view of the driver and the driver should make every attempt to learn these students’ names and bus stops first. (The younger the student, the more urgent the need.) These students should wear name badges of some kind until they are readily identified by the bus driver.
