❑ Dress and grooming will be clean and in keeping with health, sanitary, and safety requirements.

❑ All students must wear footwear. Hats, caps, headgear (hoodies) or bandanas may not be worn in school.

❑ Dress and grooming will not disrupt the teaching and learning process or cause undue attention to an individual student.

❑ Halter tops, spaghetti strap sundresses, backless top outfits, or any clothing that would display a considerable amount of skin are not acceptable, unless an appropriate cover-up is worn. Half shirts are not allowed.

❑ Tops cannot expose revealing necklines. No cut-off shirts or cut-out sleeves.

❑ Sleeveless shirts or tank tops must have at least a three inch strap, not be cut too deeply on the sides and the length must extend to the waistband of the pants when standing.

❑ Shirts and blouses must overlap jeans, pants, or skirt. Underclothing must be covered.

❑ Short pants and skirts of “fingertip” length when standing with shoulders relaxed, with hands extended at the side, may be worn by students.

❑ Class activities that present a concern for student safety may require the student to adjust hair and/or clothing during the class period in the interest of maintaining safety standards.

❑ Students may not wear attire advertising beer, liquor, drugs, or clothing that displays obscene or suggestive (spoken or implied) words or symbols.

❑ Students who are improperly clad will be instructed to change or reverse their clothing.

DRESS CODE-POLICY 2651—Marionville High School

The Board of Education expects student dress and grooming to be neat, clean, and in keeping with community standards, so that each student may share in promoting a positive, healthy and safe atmosphere within the School District. This expectation includes the school day and school sponsored extracurricular activities.

Student dress and grooming will be the responsibility of the individual and parents/guardians, within the following parameters:

1. Dress and grooming will be clean and in keeping with health, sanitary, and safety requirements.

2. All students shall wear shoes, boots or other types of footwear.

3. Dress and grooming will not disrupt the teaching/learning process or cause undue attention to an individual student. Examples of disruptive dress include, but are not limited to:

a. hats, caps or bandanas worn on the head

b. shirts that expose the midriff

c. clothing with profanity, vulgarity, obscene language, drug or sexually suggestive

phrases

d. visible undergarments

e. wallet chains, dog collars, dog collar chains, or other heavy gauge chains

f. no oversized sleeveless shirts are to be worn without an undershirt

g. no exposed halter tops, one armed tank tops, tube tops, or spaghetti straps

h. pajama bottoms or boxer shorts

i. distracting hairstyles or unnatural hair colors

j. no visible body piercing other than the ears

k. skate shoes

4. Class activities that present a concern for student safety may require the student to adjust hair and/or clothing during the class in the interest of maintaining safety standards.

5. Students shall not be permitted to wear clothing that advertises or promotes the usage or alcohol, tobacco or drugs.

6. Additional dress regulations may be imposed upon students participating in certain extracurricular activities.

When, in the judgment of the principal, a student’s appearance or mode of dress disrupts the educational process, or constitutes a threat to health or safety, the student may be required to make modifications.

Purdy DRESS CODE (K-12)

The student dress code of the Purdy R-2 School District is a result of a cooperative effort of the student leaders, administration, and Board of Education. The following rules have been adopted by the Purdy R-2 Board of Education:

1. Footwear shall be worn at all times.

2. Headbands and hats are not to be worn in the building. However, students may wear a hat on specified dress-up days.

3. Teachers of specific classes where safety or health is a factor may require students to adjust hair or clothing or remove jewelry during that period.

4. Any clothing worn shall not have writing, drawings, or emblems that are obscene, derogatory, or that promote alcoholic beverages, drugs, or tobacco products.

5. Halter tops, spaghetti-strapped sundresses, backless top outfits, or any clothing that would display a considerable amount of skin are not acceptable, unless an appropriate cover-up is worn.

6. Sleeveless shirts or tank tops must have at least a two-inch strap, not be cut too deeply on the sides, and the length must extend to the waistband of pants when standing.

7. Two layers of clothing (similar to items in #6) may be worn if they are appropriate and together they meet requirements.

8. Short pants of "fingertip" length, when standing with shoulders relaxed, with arms and hands extended at the side, may be worn by students.

9. Ragged, cutup jeans are not acceptable as shorts. Students may wear another layer of clothing under gym shorts to meet length requirements.

10. Baggy or “sagging” pants or other types of oversized clothing capable of concealing weapons are not allowed.

11. Dresses and skirts should demonstrate standards of modesty and be commensurate with each individual's physique. Dress and skirt length shall conform to the same length requirement as shorts. Slits in dresses or skirts shall conform to the same length requirement.

12 Boys shall have their hair cut in such a manner that their hair does not extend below the collar of a sport shirt. Sideburns should not extend below the lowest part of the ear.

13. Boys are to be clean-shaven.

14. No chains with links of the type typically used for wallets or belt loops are to be worn by students.

15. No gang-related clothing and/or paraphernalia are to be worn by any student during school or at any school-sponsored activity or function.

16. No unnatural hair colors will be worn. Unnatural hair colors will be considered a distraction to the educational process and students will be sent home until the hair is changed to a natural color.

Any infraction listed above will be subject to immediate correction. Student attire not specifically covered in the standards listed above that is deemed by the Purdy R-2 administration to be a distraction to the educational process is also subject to immediate correction. Students who refuse to correct dress code violations will face out-of-school suspension.

Lamar High School

STUDENT APPEARANCE

A student's individual appearance is important. If you are dressed properly you will be more at ease and will be able to study more readily. Many of our visitors will judge our school and community by the appearance of the students as well as their conduct. Dress appropriately: avoid extremes.

1. Girls will be expected to dress in a generally acceptable and modest manner. Skirts should be long enough to reach the top of the kneecap. Acceptable attire for both boys and girls will include jeans, dress slacks, etc. Shorts must be a minimum of three inches by the inseam measurement. TANK TOPS, BIKER SHORTS or FRAYED CUT-OFFS, are not considered acceptable attire. Sleeveless T-Shirts are not to be worn. Girl’s tops must be a minimum of two inches in width across the shoulder. No undergarments are to be visible when sitting or standing.. No skin is to be visible between tops and bottoms.

2. Sport or dress shirts and blouses are acceptable so long as there is no undesirable insignia or writing on the shirt. Unacceptable attire would include T-shirts, etc., which have advertisements or other insignia considered out of place in an education facility.

3. Footwear shall be worn. (No house shoes or slippers)

4. Hats, caps, or sunglasses shall not be worn inside the building. (No headbands, Doo Rags, or bandanas are allowed.)

5. Hair should be clean and well groomed: not of nuisance to the educational process. Hair should be of a natural color. Students who participate in athletics or other school activities are subject to their coach's or their sponsor's desire for grooming.

6. Body piercing other than earrings in ears shall not be worn. No studs or spacers will be allowed. This is potentially a medically unhealthy procedure.

7.   Final decision as to what is acceptable lies with the administration.

Hazelwood Public Schools, MO Student Dress Code

Student dress code is defined as attire that will not disrupt nor distract from the instructional procedures of the school. The following is a list that is intended to inform not limit. Students are to wear clothing that is clean and safe. Shoes must be worn at all times.

Items of clothing that are inappropriate for school dress and are not permissible include tight fitting clothing, revealing or suggestive clothing, tube tops, revealing tank tops, halter tops, midriff, sleepwear and see through clothing.

Headgear may not be worn in the building. Hats, caps, hair rollers, hairnets, picks, combs, and plastic hair coverings will not be permitted. Sunglasses and dark glasses, unless prescription, are considered inappropriate attire. Chains used with wallets, keys, etc. or as a belt or decoration are inappropriate and not allowed.

Clothing with vulgar, profane, or suggestive messages or pictures of illegal substances or alcoholic beverages is also inappropriate. No clothing, coloring, insignia or other symbol or combinations of symbols indicating membership in, affiliation with, or support for any gang or similar organization associated with violence, drugs, intimidation or other criminal activity will not be allowed on school grounds or at school sponsored activities.

It is also required that clothing be worn in the correct manner. For example: slacks or shorts are to be worn at the waist—not sagging, etc.

Denbigh High School, VA

The school division acknowledges that a correlation exists between good grooming and personal attire and student achievement. A similar relationship exists between student dress and acceptable standards of conduct. Recognizing these relationships, the following dress practices ARE NOT ALLOWED IN SCHOOL:

1. Headwear or head coverings of any kind (male or female): “Doo-rag”, hats, hoods, sweatbands, sunglasses, combs, picks curlers or rakes worn in the hair or any head coverings.

2. Any article of apparel, which displays obscene words, pictures or designs. Any article that conveys a sexually suggestive remark or a pro-alcohol and/or drug related message.

3. Clothing that is transparent or exposes the midriff, navel, or cleavage.

4. Tank, tube, halter tops, spaghetti straps strapless or back-less dresses. Dresses, skirts, shorts, or tops worn over stretch pants or hose not reaching at least mid-thigh. NO garment should be worn too tight and or higher than the fingertips.

5. Stretch lycra, spandex or nylon tights, leotards, biker pants or underwear worn as outer garments.

6. Pants, skirts or shorts worn below intended waistline or inside out, and boxer shorts. No pajamas/ sleepwear of any kind.

7. Cut-up shorts or pants with slits, rips or holes. Bathing suits or athletic type shorts (except in gym).

8. Bare feet. Footwear must be worn at all times and securely fastened. No flip-flops, shower shoes, track shoes, thongs, or bedroom slippers.

9. Jewelry or accessories that may be used as a weapon (e.g. two or three finger rings that are joined, chains, oversized necklaces).

10. The wearing of long coats, including trench coats and dusters inside the building.

11. Any item that may be considered disruptive or disruptive to the educational process.

Students in violation of this policy will be referred to the office and parents will be called to bring the proper school attire. If parents cannot be reached, students will be placed in an alternative setting. Time missed from classes will be unexcused. Students shall not attend classes inappropriately dressed. Repeated offenders (more than twice) of the dress code will be subject to disciplinary action.

Salinas High School--KS SCHOOL INFORMATION: DRESS CODE

The following are not permitted:

❑ Bare feet

❑ Bare midriffs (The abdominal area should not be exposed, there can be no gap, front or back, between your pants and top, either standing or sitting.)

❑ Strapless tops, torn or ragged clothing (Tops must have straps over both shoulders, no halter tops, no cleavage may show.)

❑ Hats, Caps, sunglasses inside buildings/classrooms

❑ Apparel, jewelry or accessory that contains profanity or obscenity, or references promoting the use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco

❑ Clothing that disrupts the effective functioning of the school

❑ Apparel, jewelry, accessory, notebook or manner of grooming that, by virtue of its color arrangement, trademark or any other attribute, are specifically identifiable as belonging to a disruptive group or gang.

❑ Shorts and skirts must be longer than your fingertips with your arms fully extended straight down your side.

West Hills High School--California

Students will dress in a manner that reflects positively on themselves, their parents and their school. Just as adults must conform to workplace standards, so must students. Clothing must be in good repair and footwear must be worn at all times.

Unacceptable dress includes, in part, the following:

1. Overly baggy/sagging pants

2. Clothing with underwear showing

3. Spaghetti strap or thin strap shirts (strap must completely cover the undergarment)

4. White muscle tank shirts

5. Underwear shirts

6. Back-less shirts (shirts that do not cover the back entirely)

7. Bare midriff shirts (stomach may not be exposed.

8. Strapless/tube shirts

9. Excessively low-cut shirts

10. See-through blouses

11. Halter shirts

12. Slippers, pajamas and blankets

13. Micro mini skirts and shorts; when standing in an upright position, shoulders relaxed, shorts or skirt must be longer than student’s longest finger.

14. Clothing or jewelry with the playboy symbol or the word “Hustler” or “pimp”

15. Garments displaying logos of racist groups or juvenile gangs, obscene language, vulgar gestures, racist, ethnic or sexist slurs or symbols of hate, prejudice, intolerance or discrimination

16. Wearing Skin Industries, Metal Mulisha, Kotton Mouth Kings, Hooters, 1904, 619, 13, 187, MOB INC., 983, 81, Team Dirty or any clothing, jewelry, belts with the symbol of the Iron Cross

17. Wearing apparel advertising alcohol, tobacco, drugs (including mushrooms), death and violence or bearing a likeness to an alcoholic beverage or tobacco product label or logo.

18. Any clothing or styles of dress that may be construed to provoke fear, violence, or intimidation, including gang-related attire.  

19. Wallet or waist chains

22. Overalls that act as the straps of the shirt

23. Athletic spirit phrases with a double entendre - teams are asked to get Assistant Principal approval prior to making spirit shirts

24. Acceptable headgear will only be the West Hills floppy hats which are available in the finance office for purchase.

Atlanta Public Schools

Students are expected to dress adequately, suitable for weather conditions, and in good taste.  Any article of clothing or style of dressing that tends to draw attention, interferes with instruction, or threatens health or safety is considered inappropriate.  Many of you have jobs or know someone who is employed.  School is your full-time job.  Generally speaking, if an item cannot be worn in a work setting, it should not be worn to school.

A student believed to be inappropriately dressed should be sent to an administrator for final determination and a course of action.  There are certain unacceptable items of attire.  Thus, the dress code for Rufus King includes the following restrictions:

• No tank tops, halter-tops, or strapless tops may be worn. Midriffs or cleavage may not show.

• All students are required to wear shoes as a safety measure. Bedroom slippers and thongs may not be worn.

• No outside coats or jackets may be worn during the school day. These items should be placed in the students' lockers.

• No articles of clothing, especially shirts, decorated with obscene phrases (beer, alcohol, contraband, or tobacco comments), or any language that my be interpreted as abusive or vulgar, may be worn.

• Shorts and mini-shirts will be allowed only if they meet the minimum specification of striking the student's leg at the end of his or her fingertips. Stretch fabric must meet the same specifications.

• No student is allowed to wear a hat, cap, sunglasses, curlers, wave clips, hair rollers, headscarves, head rags, bandannas, sweatbands, or gloves during school hours.

• No gang-related or clique representative articles can be worn.

• Some athletic attire is considered inappropriate dress for academic classrooms. This includes bicycle shorts, fishnet shirts and shorts, and tank tops.

• No tops or dresses that are low cut, have spaghetti straps or straps less than 2 inches wide, or have revealing sides may be worn. Slits in skirts and dresses should be fingertip length.

• Pants with holes cut in them are not allowed. Pant legs must be worn down at all times. Pants that are extra large must be worn with a belt that fits at the waist. Boxer shorts, pajamas, and other undergarments should not be seen.

• Clothing with shoulder straps should be fastened or strapped across the shoulders.

• No student is allowed to wear dangerous jewelry inside the building. Jewelry with spikes and bar rings is not allowed.

• When wearing capri pants or leggings, students must have on tops that strike their legs at the end of the fingertips.
