Metric Olympics - Frederick County Public Schools

Metric Olympics

Name:________________________________________________Block:_____Date:___________

Purpose: To practice measuring in metric units.

To compare an estimate to an actual measurement using percent error.

To convert between units of the metric system

Procedure:

At each station, you will be asked to make an estimate of a measurement and then to actually take the measurement. Each station is equipped with the materials you will need to perform the measurement as well as a card of directions. Follow these directions.

How “good” was your estimate to the actual measurement? One way to compare is to calculate the percent error. Percent error is percent that relates the estimate to the actual value. It can be used as means to see how “good” your estimate is.

To calculate percent error: Estimated Value – Actual Value / Actual Value X 100

Determine the % error for each event in your data table. SHOW ALL MATH !.
