We want you to have the best resume possible. From that standpoint, we want to stress that over-emphasizing everyday job duties can be one of the biggest weaknesses of professional resumes. We do need to cover your responsibilities, but it is your unique, quantifiable achievements that make your resume truly stand out. This worksheet will help you focus on and identify your achievements. Once completed, we can turn these successes into attention-grabbing resume bullets.

Take a moment to complete the attached "achievements worksheet". This worksheet will assist you in:

• Identifying new achievements, especially the ones from your most recent jobs

• Identifying additional details from existing achievements.  Don’t worry about making this worksheet perfect -- just get the basics down in any form possible and we'll run with it.

Step 1: Make a quick list of your accomplishments. To spark ideas, think about times when you have:

• Re-organized something to make it work better?

• Identified a problem and solved it?

• Come up with a new idea that improved things?

• Developed or implemented new procedures or systems?

• Worked on special projects?

• Received awards?

• Been complimented by your supervisor or co-workers?

• Increased revenue or sales for the company?

• Saved money for the company?

• Saved time for the company?

• Contributed to good customer service?

Step 2: Use the following categories to expand on each of your accomplishments:

Problem – What was the problem or situation?

Action – What did you do to solve the problem or make the situation better?

Result – What was the outcome? Where possible, include percentages, dollar figures, and other metrics.

Here’s an example:

Problem: disorganized, inefficient warehouse

Action: redesigned the layout

Result: saved the company $250,000 in recovered stock

For as many accomplishments as you can think of, please complete the worksheet below. Don’t worry about writing style or including every detail – just give us the essentials. Do, however, try to include numbers in your “results” as much as possible. They make your accomplishments stand out even more and add credibility. We will typically convert what you give us into 1 to 2 line bullets.

You are almost finished. Please take a moment to respond to the two questions below as best you can.

1.  Think about the position title, type of position, and/or client that you want your resume to target. It will help us tremendously if you can provide a link to job descriptions that directly relate to your goals. The resume we create will be ‘tweak-able’ for different positions.  However, we will only be writing one resume and one cover letter, and it’s very important that we are on the same page about your ideal business.

2.  Make your resume authentic and true to you. List your unique personal traits or strengths.  Try to avoid clichés (e.g. team player) and capture what is truly unique about you.
