Grade 10 Life Sciences Term 2 Week 4 (adjusted), Week 5 and Week 6 Plan

Week 4 – 21/04/2020 – 24/04/2020

From week 3 – please mark the Annual Rings, page 99 – Activity 5 (the memo will be emailed out to you on the evening of 17 April 2020.

Then start the week 4 plan below:

5. Transpiration, page 101 - 104

This section requires you to understand how roots, stems and leaves all function together.

• Factors that affect transpiration, page 101.

Take an A4 page in your book, turn it landscape format, write TRANSPIRATION in the centre. On the left-hand side make notes on the external factors, and on the right-hand side, make notes on the internal factors.

6. Transpiration Experiments, page 102 and 103 (NB)

• When we return to school, we will do the experiments on transpiration using the potometer as they are important and always come up in tests and exams.

7. Transport of water and food in plants, page 105 – 109

• Absorption of water into the root – draw the diagram, Figure 5.12 and use the paragraph to make notes.

• Copy the diagram, Figure 5.13 page 106 (turn your page landscape) and then add the information from the text on page 105 to the diagram.

• Transport of water and minerals, page 106 – 108. Go through each of the paragraphs and make short notes.

• Translocation of food – copy the paragraph, on page 109, into your books.

• Read through and try to make sense of the practical work in this section. I will demonstrate a couple of the more fun ones when we return.

Week 5 – 28/04/2020 – 30/04/2020

1. Support Systems in Animals, page 114 – 115

• Make a heading – Terminology and copy out the key words block on page 115

• Read through the information and use it to answer Activity 2 in your books. This activity will be your notes.

2. The Human Skeleton, page 116 - 125

This section requires a large amount of memorising!

• Refer to Figure 6.5 (basically the whole of page 116) you will need to learn all of the names of the bones that make up the skeleton.

• There is a little section of revision of animal tissues that you must read through to refresh your brain. It isn’t necessary to write this out again as you already made notes on tissue types.

• The Axial Skeleton, pages 120 -121

Trace (or draw if you have the art skill) the diagrams on page 120 and 121 into your notebooks. You will need to annotate them carefully using the text on those pages.

Week 6 – 04/05/2020 – 08/05/2020

• The Appendicular Skeleton, pages 122 – 123

Trace (or draw if you have the art skill) the diagrams on page 122 into your notebooks. You will need to annotate them carefully using the text on those pages.

• The structure of a long bone, page 122 and 123

Draw the diagram, Figure 6.13, into your books and use the paragraph of information on page 122 to annotate (add details).
