CCA MATH TEXTBOOK EVALUATION FORM
Use this point system in evaluating each text on the criteria listed below.
2 - Very well, excellent 1 – Acceptable 0 - Unacceptable
____ 1. Is the book attractive, arousing curiosity enough that you would pick it up and look t through it?
____ 2. Are the graphics age-appropriate and helpful in student understanding of skill or concept? Are definitions and explanatory materials clear and precise?
____ 3. Does the book have a good index and/or glossary?
____ 4. Does the book follow our standards and benchmarks in terms of selection, development and sequencing of content?
____ 5. Is there a good teacher’s edition? Does it have sufficient helps? Does it show more than one method to calculate or problem solve? Does it have flexibility for various teaching methods and content emphasis?
____ 6. Is the material practical and up-to-date? Does it help make the subject relevant by showing how it is used in everyday situations?
____ 7. Does the book use acceptable symbols and terminology?
____ 8. Is there enough practice, review and enrichment without need to purchase a number of supplementary materials?
____ 9. How much and what kinds of useful supplementary materials are available from the publishers? (e.g. tests, standardized test practice, extra practice sheets, challenge sheets, lesson suggestions and correlated activities?)
____ 10. Are manipulatives available that correlate with instruction and the graphics in the text?
____ 11. Is there integration of interrelated topics (i.e. science) and of examples with presentation?
____ 12. Is technology support included – a website or CD for students? For teachers?
____ 13. Does this curriculum lend itself to the integration of faith and learning?
