Our Response to God's Gifts

Review

God our Father created the world to show his love for us. Jesus, the Son of God, tells us that God loves us and listens to our prayers. God wants to help us. An important way that he speaks to us is through our conscience.

Prayer

Loving God, I see the world your great love has created. Help me share your love with others by guiding me to make good choices and to do the right thing.

Faith Summary

God creates each of us with a soul and free will. We see his love in the world he created for us. We have the responsibility to care for the things God creates.

The truth about God and his plan for us is found in the Bible. The Theological Virtues of faith, hope, and charity help us carry out God's plan.

Adam and Eve turned away from God by giving in to temptation. When we turn away from God, we hurt our relationship with him and with one another. However, God did not stop loving Adam and Eve, and he will never stop loving us.

Although we are all tempted to sin, we can follow the Holy Spirit and use our free will to choose how we will act. When we make an examination of conscience and listen to and obey the Holy Spirit, we choose to live in true freedom.

My Response

Our Response to God's Gifts

Review

Jesus lived among us to teach us about God's love. He showed us how to live as God wants us to live so that we can be with him forever in God's kingdom.

Prayer

Jesus, Son of God, give me the strength to follow your example in sharing God's love with others.

Faith Summary

Jesus taught us by word and by example. He gave us his commandment of love, telling us to love one another as he loves us. During his lifetime, Jesus showed perfect love to everyone. He healed people who were sick and cared for those who were poor. In all his words and actions, Jesus revealed God's love for us.

Jesus gave us the Beatitudes, which are a set of directions for living a life that is pleasing to God. By following the Beatitudes faithfully, we will help build up the Kingdom of God.

Jesus knew that being one of his followers would not always be easy. After his Death, Resurrection, and Ascension, Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to his followers to help them continue his ministry. Today, the Holy Spirit gives us strength to follow Jesus.

The corporal and spiritual works of mercy are specific ways to help others. They show us how we can serve God by caring for people's needs.

My Response

Being meek means being kind and gentle. How can practicing this beatitude help you at home and at school?

Our Response to God's Gifts

Review

Jesus calls us to be faithful members of his Church. As part of this community, we are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Prayer

Loving Jesus, help me be a good disciple by serving people in need.

Faith Summary

As Catholics, we belong to Jesus' community--the Church. We become full members of the Church through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist.

Jesus calls the Church to continue his mission. As the successors of the Apostles, the pope and the bishops are the spiritual leaders of the Church. Faithful Catholics follow the precepts of the Church.

Jesus calls us to ask for forgiveness when we sin so that we can live as friends with him and others. We celebrate God's love and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Jesus' parable of the forgiving father shows God's willingness to forgive us when we sin.

Mary, the Mother of God, became the first and greatest disciple of Jesus. Mary is the Mother of the Church as well as the Mother of God. She continues her discipleship in heaven, where she prays for us.

My Response

What can you do this week at school to show that you are Jesus' disciple?
