HOW TO HOMESCHOOL YOUR CHILD:

Now that you have decided to home-educate, and you've chosen the Syllabis Curriculum Package, you need know how to homeschool your child.

How to go about organising the curriculum materials and lesson management:

Learners textbooks, work books, readers etc.

Place the above on a bookshelf, or in a bin/drawer labeled for the learner in the dedicated school room/area where applicable. Should the learner keep the books in good condition there is a possibility that Syllabis will purchase the books at a value to be agreed upon disadvantaged learners resulting in a cost saving for all parties. The books can also be `handed down' to a sibling or perhaps a friends child.

Learners study guides and workbooks

The homeschooler (Parent/Tutor/Teacher/Facilitator) must ensure that all lessons which have been completed by the learner is `ticked off' as having been completed and insert any comments or notes on the completed lesson report provided in the respective subject study guide.

Hard-copy books and workbooks (where applicable) etc.

Place these on a bookshelf or in a bin/drawer labeled for the educator, parent, supervisor in the dedicated school room/area. If the books are kept in good condition, there is a strong possibility that Syllabis will purchase the books from you at a future date at a mutually agreed price on behalf of needy families. The books can also be `handed down' to another family member or friend of the family which will result in a financial saving.

Learners weekly study plan (Grades 4?12)

Print a hard copy of each subject's study plan in A3 format and place in the 2 hole lever arch file to be kept handy on a bookshelf or in a bin/drawer labeled `Study guides/Study Plans', and learners grade and name. Each learner must have his/her own file. See annexure `A'

The Study Plan for each subject covers the time, time allocation, topic: units, theme, description and lesson source ? learners textbook, teacher guide or online lessons..

The homeschooler (Parent/Tutor/Teacher/Facilitator) must ensure that all lessons which have been completed by the learner is `ticked off' as having been completed and insert any comments or notes on the completed lesson report provided in the respective subject study guide. See annexure `B'

Homeschooled students progress at their own pace. Because instruction takes place in a one-on-one environment, homeschoolers can spend as long as they need to on a particular concept or topic and move on as soon as they have mastered the material. This ability to slow down or move forward as necessary helps students avoid the boredom and undue pressure that come from following arbitrary timelines and striving to meet outside standards.

Homeschool schoolroom Setting up a homeschool schoolroom is a great way to keep books and supplies organised, and keep everyone in the same room during school time. Some families have an unused room in their home that they use to create a homeschool classroom. Others store materials in each child's room and meet each day to work at the dining table. And others set up school areas in a corner of another room. Tips for setting up a home school classroom Consider your children's personalities and learning styles when setting up your school room. Do your children learn best at a table or while lounging on bean bags? Will your children find wall maps, timelines and other visual aids distracting or educational? Also make sure the room's temperature, lighting, and levels of noise and activity are comfortable for your children. Remember, your school area does not have to be expensively furnished and decorated. You want an area that meets your family's needs, not one that impresses the neighbours. Homeschool school room ideas Here are some ideas for turning your home school schoolroom into a place where your kids will thrive!

? de-clutter your homeschool school room ? Removing clutter helps you think more clearly and makes it easier to keep things clean.
