Course Description: In Grade 7, mathematics instructional time should focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of and applying proportional relationships; (2) developing understanding of operations with rational numbers and working with expressions and linear equations; (3) solving problems involving scale drawings and informal geometric constructions, working with two‐ and three‐dimensional shapes to solve problems involving area, surface area, and volume; and (4) drawing inferences about populations based on samples.

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards Units for 1st Semester:

o Unit 1: Operations with Rational Numbers

o Unit 2: Expressions and Equations

o Unit 3: Ratios and Proportional Relationships

Common Core Georgia Performance Standards Units for 2nd Semester:

o Unit 4: Inferences

o Unit 5: Geometry

o Unit 6: Probability

o Unit 7: Show What We Know

Supplies: Students must have number 2 pencils and 3 ring binder with paper daily.

Grading System: Grades are determined by Summative and Formative Assessments. Summative Assessments (60%) include tests and performance tasks. Formative Assessments (40%) include quizzes and practice assignments, such as homework and classwork.

Absences and Late Work: Students are required to make up all missed assignments upon returning from absences. Students will be given a grade of 0/F for assignments not turned in.

Homework: Homework may include practice worksheets as well as completing unfinished class assignments.

Tutoring: Weekly tutorials will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 7:45AM.

Behavior: Students’ good behavior helps all students to learn and helps to make a comfortable learning environment. All students are expected to behave in the classroom appropriately. Students will earn a Conduct grade for this class. I expect all students to treat each other and each of us with respect. Students are expected to raise their hand and wait to be called upon. Speaking when the teacher or another student is speaking will not be tolerated. Students must come prepared with notebook and pencils daily. Students are expected to participate each day and stay on task.
