Required supplies

3 ring binder, loose-leaf, pens, pencils, eraser, geometry set and calculator (the Texas Instruments TI-30XA calculator is one affordable option with all necessary functions for grade 8 math).

How to Succeed

1. Listen actively in class. Participate by answering and asking questions.

2. Respect everyone’s right to do their best.

3. Review notes and examples then practise for at least 20 minutes each night.

4. Complete all assigned homework and assignments.

Attendance

If you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what you missed. If you know you will be missing classes in the future, (holiday, sporting event etc.) efforts will be made to inform you what you will be missing in advance. If you will be absent for more than a day or two, some of the missed work will have to be caught up upon your return. Many times it is not possible to know exactly what will be done in a distant future class.

Assessment & Evaluation

Formative assessment will be varied and will include, diagnostics, homework, learning conversations, interviews, observation, performance tasks.

Final summative marks will be based on quizzes and 8-9 (time dependent) cumulative tests and the final exam. Although marks are based on test results, final marks will take into account more recent and consistent results as more relevant.

Term Work 80% Final Exam 20%

The final exam will cover the entire course.

Progress tracking

Students will track their progress on outcomes (or targets) as the year progresses. After each summative quiz or test, be sure to record your marks on your Results Tracking Sheets.

Our progression through the math curriculum has been mapped. Please see: Grade 8 Mathematics Targets
