Assignment Policy

Late and Missed Assignments

All Summative assignments listed above are considered major, summative evaluations. Each assesses a student’s learning of components of the course’s essential knowledge and skills as prescribed in The Ontario Curriculum (2007). As such, each of these assignments MUST be completed successfully in order for a credit to be earned.

In the event that the deadline for a major assignment has passed and no assignment has been received, the teacher may,

a) negotiate a completion date with the student;

b) communicate with the student’s parent/guardian about the outstanding work;

c) provide an alternate opportunity to demonstrate the required knowledge and skills to be eligible to earn the credit.

Major assignments not handed-in after the negotiated completion date will receive an incomplete mark (I) and the result will be reflected in the Learning Skills section of the report card. The teacher will not assign a grade of 0 for a missed major, summative evaluation, nor deduct marks for a late assignment. The teacher will exercise his or her professional judgment when entering a mark at report card time if major assignments are incomplete.

The teacher will determine a date when the assignment will no longer be accepted for marks. The essential knowledge and skills that the missing assignment was designed to assess must still be demonstrated in order for a credit to be earned.

If all essential knowledge and skills have not been successfully demonstrated by the end of the course, the student will earn a failing mark.

MARK REPORTING DATES FOR 2014-2015

Term 1: November 6 Term 2: January 29

Term 3: April 10 Term 4: June 9

All major/summative assignments not submitted by the above dates will be receive and incomplete mark (I) and the student’s report card mark will be determined by the teacher’s professional judgment.

Dear Parent/Guardian;

It is my goal that every student has a successful year in ENG4UI, learning and achieving to his or her full potential. In order to help achieve success for your son/daughter, communication between you and me is essential. There are many ways we can facilitate this communication.

First, the course website contains all information for the course. I post a class schedule, copies of hand-outs, updated marks, due dates, etc. to the course website. Please go to http:/sfraserenglish. at any time for updated course information.

For specific questions about your son/daughter, e-mail is the fastest, most immediate form of communication. Please contact me by e-mail at sheila_fraser@wrdsb.on.ca if you have any concerns/questions. Please enter your e-mail information below to help me reach you if necessary.

I send reminders about assignments/HW/due dates/etc. to students in this class by use of a program called Remind. Remind sends one-way text messages from me to all students and parents who sign up. Phone numbers are never shared and students cannot reply. If you wish to receive these text messages to stay updated about what is happening in class, please enter the number (415)683-6680 on your phone and the message @efceee.
