TWU College of NursingInstructions for Completing the Prerequisite Advising WorksheetUse the Prerequisite Advising Worksheet to calculate your nursing GPAs and admission formula score. There are two separate GPAs that the College of Nursing evaluates. Your overall Prerequisite GPA will be used by the College of Nursing to determine your eligibility for admission to nursing. This number needs to be a minimum of 3.0 to be considered. Your Nursing Core GPA will be used in the admission formula that determines acceptance to the upper-division nursing program.Begin by filling in the information at the top of the worksheet. Using the drop-down menus (click on blank to reveal menu arrows), choose the appropriate answers for the following blanks:TWU F14+ FTIC - Answer “Yes” if you began at TWU directly from high school in Fall 2014 or later. All others answer “No.”TX CC Elsewhere – Answer “Yes” if you know you are already Texas core complete from a previous institution.Prior Bachelor’s Degree - Answer “Yes” if you have earned, or will earn, a bachelor’s degree in another field before beginning nursing coursework.Answers to the above determine if some prerequisite courses are grayed-out. Any courses which are grayed-out will not be required for you, nor will they be considered in your admission to nursing.Using your TWU transcripts to fill out the worksheet:Enter the number of semester credit hours for each completed prerequisite in either the TWU or Trans Sem. Hours column, depending upon whether you took the course at TWU or are transferring it in from another college. Do not enter any numbers for a course if you have not yet taken or completed, as that will result in an incorrect GPA.Enter the grade points awarded for your course grade in the Grade column, as follows: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0.Frequently Asked Questions:Combined lecture + lab sciences - If you have only one grade for a combined (lecture + lab) science course, enter 3 for the lecture hours and 1 for the lab hours, then enter the grade (in grade points) in the Grade column for both lab and lecture.Credit by exam (AP, CLEP, or IB) – Instead of entering the hours and grade points, in the “Notes” blank for the course, put “CR” for credit that TWU awarded or “TCR” for credit that was awarded by another institution. No TWU transcripts - If you are a prospective student and/or a 2nd bachelor’s student and do not have transfer coursework posted to a TWU transcript, course equivalency charts can be found on the TWU website to help you determine whichcourses will meet the College of Nursing requirements. If your school is not on any of the equivalency charts, a nursing advisor will need to review your courses.Multicultural Women’s Studies – This is the only prerequisite that a student may take in the nursing program, and many transfer students may not need it at all, depending upon state core courses already taken. For simplicity, if you are transferring in and are unsure what to put there, you can leave it blank.TWU Preference - The TWU Preference refers to the extra admission points awarded to those who get half or more of their required prerequisites from TWU. The blank will only read “Yes” for students who have completed 32 or more prerequisite hours (16 hours for 2nd bachelor’s students) at TWU.Repeated courses - If a course is taken more than once, the most recent grade should be used on the worksheet, whether it is higher or lower than the first attempt. Remember to move the credit hours from Trans. to TWU, or vice versa, if necessary.Understanding your Admission Score:This is the total of all points awarded to you for your Nursing Core GPA (20 points max), TEAS scores (12 points max, per section), and possible preferences (18 points max); and, it the number by which we rank all applicants. It will only be visible on the worksheet once TEAS individual section scores are entered. The number needed to be admitted into upper-division nursing will vary depending upon the campus to which you are applying and the applicant pool each semester. There is no way to predict what scores will get in, but based off of previous semesters, scores of 40 and higher are generally competitive for Houston and 48 or higher are competitive for Dallas. The GPA worksheet is an unofficial working document. All final decisions are to be made by the College of Nursing. All students should meet with an advisor at least one time per year to ensure they are taking the correct courses, and again before they apply to the upper-division program. ................
