➢ CLASSROOM GUIDELINES: #1 RESPECT ONE ANOTHER

Class Start

□ Each day, upon entering the room, you are to immediately take your seat and begin the bell-work assignment that will be posted on the board.

Class Participation

□ I encourage open discussion in this class in which all students respect their classmates’ opinions. Please remember to raise your hand and wait to be called upon before speaking out-loud.

Tardiness

□ You must have both feet in the door when tardy bell rings or you will be marked tardy. A teacher pass is needed in order to excuse the violation. As stated in the student handbook, four tardies will equal a detention.

Group Work

□ Some investigations, assignments, and projects will be done with partners or groups. I will be observing closely to see how constructively students work with one another in the classroom environment. Failure to behave properly may result in independent work, detention, and/or loss of participation points.

Consequences

□ I will usually give one warning to correct behavior. Second or third warning may result in removal from group work, detention, or time out. Consequence is dependent on the severity of behavior and how frequently the behavior occurs.

➢ OVERALL GRADE

1. Homework and In-Class Assignments (30% of grade)

Homework:

• Homework will be assigned 3-4 days a week.

• Most of the time, homework will be graded (in pen) for effort and completion. All homework assignments will be worth 4 points each.

• Homework will be posted on Progressbook and the dry erase board.

• Homework may be turned in late for half credit. However, assignment must be turned in no later than two days after the due date.

• If homework is done in pen, the assignment will receive 0 points.

In-Class Assignments

• There will be assignments (mainly investigations) given during class time that will be completed individually or within a group. In-class assignments will be worth 4 points.

• Bell-work will be collected on Fridays. Each day’s bell-work is worth 1 point. Please begin a new sheet of paper for bell-work each Monday.

2.) Assessments (60% of grade)

• Upon failure of an assessment (quizzes and comprehensive tests), each student is allowed to come see me before school to review mistakes. Assessment score will be changed to a 60% passing grade.

• Some assessments may be in the form of a take-home project.

3.) Participation (10%)

• I will expect participation and will give a grade for this at the beginning of each grading period. Everyone begins with 43-46 points (depending on grading quarter). You will earn one point per day by following directions, working on task, and bringing materials to class. (In other words, points are earned by following class rules.) Failure to follow class rules will result in loss of points.

Grading Scale

A+ = 98%-100% B+ = 87%-89.9% C+ = 77%-79.9% D+ = 67%-69.9%

A = 93%-97.9% B = 83%-86.9% C = 73%-76.9% D = 63%-66.9%

➢ CLASSROOM ABSENSES
