Becoming a Successful Online learner

Dedicate some time to learn how you can succeed in your online course. Success takes effort and determination. What are some attributes and skills that are needed for you to succeed? Besides effort and determination, you must: ? Possess a positive attitude--This means that you believe in

yourself and have the capacity to learn. ? Have self-motivation--Be willing to put forth your best effort each and every day. ? Know when to get help-- Your teachers are available to help you and they are a great source of infor-

mation. Always remember that there is no such thing as a "dumb" question. ? Be disciplined--Learning takes time and concentration. There are going to be times when you would

rather be doing something else instead of doing your schoolwork. However, if you want to succeed, you need to devote the time to your education. Pro athletes do not become an overnight phenomena. It takes years of practice and attention to every detail to hone their talents so that they can attain their aspirations of being a professional athlete. ? Learn the Netiquette Rules-- Just like in your face-to-face classroom there are some basic rules that you must follow in your online classroom: Be aware -- watch what you write/say and how you write/say it. Use of profanity is strictly prohibited.

Consider the tone of your message and be respectful; use words like please and thank you. Jokes, sarcasm, excessive use of emoji's and acronyms can easily be misunderstood especially in online communications. No name calling or posting of offensive pictures or comments (cyberbullying). Dress for success-- wear appropriate attire during live synchronous sessions, remember your image is being transmitted to your teacher and classmates. For example, no pajamas. The written word-- do not type in all caps, it is considered shouting and is difficult to read. Use proper punctuation, spelling and grammar. Use the chat for course topics, not as a personal chat during live synchronous sessions. Mostly read and think before you respond to posts/chats.
