ISASC’s 30th Birthday & 29th Convention

The First Convention ever in Michigan

May 17th to 21st, 2007

The continuous effort from Ben Smith finally succeeded. There will be in May 2007 the first ISASC Convention in Michigan and guess what, the date coincides with the 30th birthday of our society, the International Society of Antique Scale Collectors. The convention team strives to make this convention a very unique experience and what better town than Dearborn could we have chosen. You stay in the Hyatt Regency next door to The Henry Ford, “a cluster of knock out attractions” – Chicago Tribune. There is no doubt; the museum is America’s greatest History Attraction. Where else can you visit the birthplaces from various celebrities, see the house with the first-ever electric light installation, Henry’s first assembly line, a line up of cars from the first to current, Edison’s last breath, the chair Lincoln was assassinated in, the car Kennedy was shot in, Rosa Parks’ bus, the finest china, clocks, furniture, and it goes on and on and on. We swear there is something for everyone.

In order to give you the full treatment, for Thursday night, we arranged, just two minutes from our hotel, a tour and dinner in Clara and Henry Ford’s mansion . . . they are unfortunately “out of town.” What more can you ask for. See how they lived. You might get tips for your next house, especially for the garage.

And if you ever doubted that Michigan and Detroit had scale manufacturers, you will return from this trip as a believer. During the last two years the team and several helpers researched scale makers for endless hours. The result is overwhelming. Did you know… Sorry that is privileged, you have to come and hear it yourself in the presentations on Saturday morning. A high point of your visit will be on Monday, the tour to Jim’s unique collection. I know that there is no one else in the world with a more complete collection of Michigan scales. Jim cornered the market – he has more than all of us together, you included. Don’t miss this part. Your education would not be complete.

In case you come by car, try to visit as many of the great sights as possible. To get here, you might even take the ferry from Manitowoc, WI across Lake Michigan to Ludington, MI. There are the Great Lakes, the Soo Locks, the Upper Peninsula, beautiful old towns, Grand Rapids, the former furniture center of America, and lots of museums in and around Detroit …for more details please see attachment.

The costs for a convention are a vicious circle; with the words “location, location, location” you set the stage. Nevertheless the team was able to stay in line with past events; so you will get a lot for your money and not only food. We included even a tour and private dinner with unique ambiance on Thursday and a dinner on Friday during the Collector’s Get Together.
