JUNE is here! I really enjoyed working with and getting to know all of your children this year. I hope that you and your families enjoy your summer vacation. Although school is ending, please keep your child’s social and academic development in mind. I listed several ideas in this newsletter.

There are many developmental and social benefits to sending your child to summer camp. Children learn to build relationships with peers, have the chance to “unplug” from technology and participate in active play, and experience the great outdoors. I listed several local camps below.

DV-ACE Summer Day Camp involves students with reading, math, science, social studies & physical activities. Each week will have a different theme. For more information about day camp (or other DV-ACE activities) pick up a flyer from any school office, or visit the school website:

Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA offers numerous summer programs (Sleepaway Camp, Day Camp, Horseback Riding, etc.) All located right in Dingmans Ferry! For more information, visit their website:

Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC) focuses children’s curiosity on the natural world. During week-long, themed camp sessions such as Creepy Crawlies, Winged Wonders, and Camouflage children learn by exploring and discovering the wonders of nature. Summer Fun Learning Activities

Summer is a welcome break from school and a chance to spend time together as a family. Here are some ideas to continue expanding your child’s mind all summer long…

Pan for Gold: Bury coins in a sandbox and have children use colanders to find them. Then have them count their loot. Compare findings and crown the winner.

License Plate Learning: When you’re on the road, have your kids study the license plate on the car in front of you. Have them rearrange the numbers of the plate to make the largest three-digit number possible. The person with the largest number wins the round. Change it up by asking for the smallest number possible.

Summer Journal: Let your child choose or make a special journal to record thoughts, feelings, activities, and sketches. The journal will help them remember activities and deepen their understanding of experiences.

Volunteer Reading: Is there an elderly relative, a neighbor, younger friend or sibling your child can read to over the summer? Reading for an audience is a different experience than reading independently. Your child will build confidence in reading skills.
