Affix (root words) Multiple Intelligence Lesson Plan

Root Word (Affix) Project

In order to grow our vocabulary, we are going to have weekly lessons on Latin and Greek root words. Learning root words will help you on the SAT, the AP test, AIMS, and on in-class timed writings by expanding your vocabulary and enabling you to infer the meaning of unfamiliar words based on their root.

The good news: You are going to teach the class about your assigned root! You will research and become an expert on your root, and will teach it to your peers on an assigned day as a warm up. Here is what you must submit:

-A Power Point or Prezi or Google Presentation visual aid with:

o The definition of your assigned root and the etymology (Latin or Greek) of the root (5 pts)

o 5 vocabulary words with graphics, definition, part of speech (10 pts)

o A hint to help us remember the definition, whether that is a visual aid or wordplay (5 pts)

o CITATIONS (in MLA Format) of your sources for the definitions (5 pts)

My assigned root is ____________________ which means ______________________________

I present on _________________________________________

My chosen vocabulary words are ________________ _________________

_________________ _________________ ______________________

Your expertise is worth a lot! If you write information on the board instead of preparing a presentation, you must still submit proof to me that you’ve prepared in advance. This means typed out definitions and parts of speech and your root word’s language of origin. This is only in cases of extreme issues with technology, as I expect everyone to find access at school if you don’t have it at home.

You will also be graded on your preparation. FAILURE TO BE PREPARED ON YOUR ASSIGNED DAY RESULTS IN AN AUTOMATIC 50% OFF, unless extreme emergency does not allow you to come to school, and therefore I would like a note from home explaining said emergency.

Because this requires electronic resources, you will want to save repeatedly, and will NEED to either bring in your presentation on a flash drive to use at school or e-mail it to me BEFORE the due date! Using Prezi, an online tool, will save you from having to worry about saving! You can access Prezi from any computer any time! (As you can with Google Presentations).

Turn this handout back in to me on the day you present to get your grade!
