Gods and Goddesses were the focal point of numerous ancient civilizations. The peoples of ancient Greece were no different. The entire ancient Greek culture was centered around the honor and worship of the many gods on Mt. Olympus. To pay tribute to these gods, the Greeks constructed temples ranging from the shores of the Persian Empire to the foothills of Italy. These luring temples were created for visitors to pay tribute to the gods and inspiration in life. Many of these temples are considered to “Wonders of the Ancient World,” and even today they are still admired by people all over the world.
Assignment:
You may choose to work in groups of no more than three members for this project. Once you have conducted your research you should have an extensive knowledge of the impact these temples had on the culture of ancient Greece. Now, you must create an original temple for an ancient Greek god. Some of the gods and goddess that could be used include:

The temple should reflect the personality and stories associated with the god you have selected. Your grade will be based not only on the accuracy of your temple with ancient Greek architectural standards but also with your personal creative aspects as well. A legend for your temple must also be included for the project showing at least 5 symbolic connections.
Scoring Rubric:
100 - 90 A All parts of project are complete and follow all directions given in handout. Project components include; original temple, 5 symbolic representations, follows Greek architecture, connects to god. Effort and detail is provided that shows complete understanding of the subject matter.
89 - 80 B Most parts of project are complete and follow most directions given in handout. Project components include; original temple, Less than 5 symbolic representations, may not follow Greek architecture, connects to god. Effort and detail is provided that shows understanding of the subject matter.
79 - 70 C Some parts of project are complete and follow some directions given in handout. Project components include; original temple, less than 5 symbolic representations, does not follows Greek architecture, does not connect to god. Effort and detail is provided that shows some understanding of the subject matter.
69 - 60 D Few parts of project are complete and follow few directions given in handout. Project components include; original temple, less than 5 symbolic representations, does not follow Greek architecture, does not connects to god. Effort and detail is provided that shows little understanding of the subject matter.
