Myth: The War between the Titans and the Olympians

A. Provide a thorough summary of the myth. Your summary should include the basic plot, the driving conflict, and the main character(s) involved in the driving conflict.

Exposition:

1. “Cronus was king and the world was at peace.”

2. Rhea announces that she is having a baby.

a. Driving Conflict: Cronus is afraid history will repeat himself and his kids will overthrow him.

Rising Action:

3. Cronus eats his children, and Rhea is not happy about this.

4. When she was pregnant with her 6th child, she planned a trick: she pretended to give birth, wrapped a stone in a blanket, and fed that to Cronus.

5. She fled to the island of Crete to have her baby: Zeus (The reader already knows that Zeus is going to be the king of all gods and goddesses, so it is assumed that he will do something heroic.)

6. Zeus tricks Cronus by giving him wine with a potion that made Cronus throw up his brothers and sister.

7. Zeus and his siblings went to live on Mt. Olympus and became The Olympians.

8. The Olympians, led my Zeus, waged war on the Titans (Cronus and his siblings)

Climax: The Olympians win the war against the Titans.

Resolution: Zeus challenged Cronus to a wrestling match to determine who would have control of Mt. Olympus.

Denouement: Zeus becomes King. Cronus and the rest of the Titans were banished.
