REVEREND CHARLES CURTIS ADKINS
PINE HALL - Reverend Charles Curtis Adkins, 78, of Pine Hall, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2009.
He is remembered for often saying, "I have fought a good fight and finished my course, I kept the faith." (II Timothy 4:7)
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. , Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tim Gammons, Reverend Bobby Billings, and Reverend Vic Pyles offiCiating. Burial will follow in the Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery, in Pine Hall.
Reverend Adki ns was born in Surry County to the late Willie Raddie and Minnie Reece Adkins. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family and chu rch fami ly. He was a retired minister of 50 years and spent most of his life enjoying farming and gardening. During his ministry, he organized and pastored Morning Star Baptist Church in Pine Hall for 9 years, pastored Floyd Baptist Church in Eden for 27 years, and supplied at many other churches. Since retiring, he faithfully attended Woodland Baptist Church in Winston Salem.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; his brothers, Dairl, Frank (Arthur), Spencer, and James (Pete) Adkins; Sisters, Myrl Kendrick and Ruth Ann Goins.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Earline Hall Adkins; children, Charles (Linda Ann) Adkins, Jr. of Madison, Sylvia (Dean) Gatewood, Robert (Linda) Adkins, Bobby (Lou Ann) Adkins, and Teresa (Jay) Adams, all of Pi ne Hall ; granddaughters, Michelle Oakley, Mandy Knight, Jasmine Boles, Lauren Adkins, Crystal Smith, Ash ley Adkins, Ellie Adams, and Katie Adams; great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Ethan Smith, Caleb Oakley, Kendall Oakley, Jackson Boles, Kaylee Boles, and Lexie Knight; brother, Carl Junior (Kathy) Adkins of Mayodan; and Sister, Clara Wright, of Mayodan.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:30 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison and all other times at the home at 1095 Luther Williams Road, Pine Hall.
The fami ly wou ld like t o express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelming support of family and friends shown throughout Mr. Adkins' illness . They are also grateful to Dr. Nyland and Christie, Dr. Ennever, nurses and staff of Wesley Long Regional Cancer Center of Greensboro, Sheryl Hopper, Adva nced Home Care of Winston Salem and Hospice of Rockingham County (nurses Beth and Leandra) for their care and love.
