David Burbidge

David Burbidge has lead harmony singing and natural voice groups in the Lake District for almost 20 years, including Kendal community choir Lakeland Voices, and the hill walking singing group Lakeland Songline. He also runs a series of weekend and week long singing events through the year including Singing Settle-Carlisle with singing on trains and in stations, Folk Carols, and a week on the island of Jura singing songs from Scotland in Gaelic and English. He lives on the banks of the river Clough near Sedbergh with his wife and 5 year old daughter - and also arranges choir tours in the Lake District and Slovenia where visiting singers meet local choirs and groups for workshops, song swaps, concerts, ceilidhs, walks.....and pub singing.  Details of his events and community choirs can be found on lakelandvoice.co.uk

Folk Carols

Too much fun to only sing at Christmas! - not the carols you normally hear in church, but ones which are more likely to be sung in pubs, folk clubs.....and at our Folk Carol festival in the Yorkshire Dales village of Dent. All the carols will taught by ear, though words will be displayed. Recordings of the songs and harmonies are available via David's free video website Lakelandvoices  and lakelandvoice.co.uk

Songs from Slovenia

David's home town Sedbergh has been twinned with Zrece in the former Yugoslavian republic of Slovenia for almost a decade (as featured in the long-running BBC documentary The Town That Wants a Twin.) During this time he has arranged over 40 exchanges of choirs and singers between the Greater Sedbergh and Zrece districts. These are some of the songs they have sung together from Slovenia's rich culture of folk songs. All the songs will be learnt by ear, with words displayed in both Slovenian and in "phonics" - how the words sound to those who speak English. Recordings of the parts are available via David's free video website. Recordings of the songs and harmonies are available via David's free video. Lakelandvoices  and  lakelandvoice.co.uk

Gregorian Chant

For many modern listeners the sounds of Gregorian chant are compelling - words and rhythms at once familiar and remote. Here's a chance to taste of the variety of plainsong – to try music still vibrant after more than 1000 years. Explore one of the roots of western music in the (usually) unaccompanied melodies of the medieval church. All voices – all ages (over 10) – any faith or none. gregorian-.uk
