Having spent the previous summer at Texas A&M University on a National Science Foundation project, I decided to attend Texas A&M, graduating from there in 1977 with a B.S. in Microbiology. I went on to complete an M.A. in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. That took a little longer than I had planned because right after starting my thesis, I was presented with an opportunity to go to Guam with Campus Crusade for Christ on a pilot project called Stop-Out for Christ. I decided to go and spent the next three years doing community outreaches, teaching women’s Bible studies, and working with churches on the island. I also spent many evenings writing my thesis and finally graduated from UT Austin in 1981. I met my husband on Guam and we spent the next 12 years there. In 1994 we moved back to Texas, where I attended Baylor University. I received my Ph.D. in Biomedical Studies in 1999. During the time at Baylor, I became more and more convinced that I wanted to teach biology at the university level. At the time I was coordinating the Molecular Biology labs for the department and enjoyed the interaction with the students and the challenge of taking a difficult concept and making it understandable. Working at UMHB has allowed me to develop my teaching skills and has also shown me that administration is something that I enjoy as much as teaching. ................
