American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Lecture GuideAPTANational organization that represents the physical therapy profession. Composed of PT’s, PTA’s, and students.Membership is voluntary. Board of DirectorsThe fundamental duties of the BOD are to carry out the mandates and policies established by the HOD as well as to manage the affairs of APTA. The HOD establishes the policies and positions of APTA, BOD, elected by the HOD, communicates these issues to internal and external personnel or agencies. House of DelegatesIt has the authority to establish the policies and directives of APTA and elect members of the BOD. HOD is composed of voting delegates from all chapters and nonvoting delegates such as students.Related OrganizationsAmerican Board of Physical Therapy SpecialtiesProvides a formal mechanism to recognize PT’s with advanced knowledge, skills, and experience in a special area of practice. Participation is voluntary however, PT’s shall not present themselves as board certified clinical specialists unless they have successfully completed the certification process.
