JEANNETTE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL BANDS

Very similarly to builders, musicians need the correct “tools” to successfully “complete the job.” Some commonly used musical tools are listed below. Thanks to “technology,” these items can be downloaded from your computer or smart phone for FREE. Please encourage your music student to use these tools when practicing at home.

METRONOME - Practice tool that keeps a steady beat and helps musicians play rhythms accurately:

Google “free online metronome” on the internet.

❖ I like: because it includes helpful practice tips.

❖ Download a free “app” on your smart phone. Search “free metronome.” Many to choose from.

TUNER - Practice tool that measures sound frequency and notes if the pitch is being

played correctly.

❖ Download a free “app” on your smart phone. Search “free chromatic tuner.” Many to choose from.

FINGERING/ SLIDE CHART – Diagram or chart that displays how to play every pitch on a musical instrument.

❖ Every student received a chart from Mrs. Phillips and should have it located in the “resource” tab of the band binder.

❖ Most music method books have one in the cover or back page.

❖ Google and print for free from the internet.

Percussion Rudiment Chart –

❖ Google “free percussion rudiment chart” on the internet.

❖ I like: education/rudiments.php It includes a demonstration video with each rudiment.
