The Adaptive Recreation Opportunities program provides quality and equal opportunities for recreation and leisure programs to community members with disabilities. Several of the ARO programs offered this season include the following:
Inclusion Services
The City of Fort Collins welcomes individuals of all abilities into our classes and programs. If you are interested in participation support, please indicate any special needs you may have when you register. NOTE: Requests should be made at least two weeks before the class begins.
Transition Services
If you need more assistance in making your recreation and leisure choices, the Transition program might be right for you. Explore new experiences; learn about exciting recreation opportunities and meet new people. A Recreation Specialist will help you develop your personal Passport to Recreation Profile and discuss your needs, strengths, and interests.
Specialized Programs
Our adaptive winter 2011-2012 programs include but are not limited to the following: Goalball, Ice Skating, Rock Climbing, Snowshoeing, Snow Skiing, Swim Lessons, and Workout Partners. Specific program descriptions, locations, dates, times, fees and registration numbers are listed below.
GOALBALL TOURNAMENT
Our Fort Collins teams have invited players from Denver and Colorado Springs to come and compete against our local athletes. Participants of all levels are welcome.

LOCATION: Youth Activity Center

FEE: $4 per player
THEATRE ACTING WORSHOP
Learn to express yourself on stage! We will have fun with theater games, improvisation and skits.
AGE: 14 and up

INDOOR ROCK CLIMBING CLINIC
Climbing techniques and equipment will be adapted for climbers with physical disabilities and visual impairments. Come join us for an afternoon of food, fun, community and climbing!
NOTE: Climbing shoe rental is available for $4. Class partially discountable.

Gentle yoga for all
You will learn a variety of Yoga postures that can be practiced from a chair, standing or seated on the floor. This class is specifically designed to be adapted for people of all abilities and to help you incorporate Yoga into your everyday life.
AGE: 16 years & up

NOTE: Drop in rate is $8 per class. Class not discountable.

Adaptive Skating
Basic skills are introduced and adaptive equipment and techniques are provided. Skill improvement and fun will be the focus in class. All abilities are welcome.
NOTE: Please bring an attendant if you need assistance off the ice.
AGE: 8 and older
LOCATION: Edora Pool Ice Center
SESSION 1: Saturdays, January 7-February 4, 9:45-10:15 AM
SESSION 2: Saturdays, February 11-March 10, 9:45-10:15 AM
FEE: $40 per 5-week session
REGISTRATION NUMBERS: 13260-01 and/or 13260-02
IGNITE Adaptive Snow Skiing & SNOWSHOEING
Ignite Adaptive offers instruction and equipment for skiers with visual impairments. Lift ticket, individual volunteer ski instruction and adapted equipment are provided for downhill, Nordic skiing, or snow boarding. Group snow shoeing is also available.
AGE: 12 and over
LOCATION: Depart from and return to the Fort Collins Senior Center
SESSION 1 DATES: Sundays, January 16, January 23 and January 30
SESSION 2 DATES: Sundays, February 13, February 20 and February 27
TIME: 7:00 AM-5:30 PM
FEES: Fees vary depending on whether you are skiing, snowboarding ($310) or snowshoeing ($170).

KEYSTONE ADAPTIVE SKI TRIPS
Ski at Keystone Resort with Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center! BOEC is a nationally known adaptive ski program! They provide individual volunteer instructors, adapted ski and snowboard equipment for stand up or sit ski skiers with disabilities. This ski trip is offered to people with physical disabilities or visual impairments only.
Note: Door to door pick up service is available for an additional $2 per person and must be requested one week in advance. Attendants welcome; please register at no fee. For more information, contact Renee Lee at (970) 224-6027or rlee@.

Artistic abilities – 3D Art
Participants will learn techniques with a variety of materials to create unique pieces of art. This class is open to people of all abilities, with emphasis on accommodations for various challenges and disabilities.
AGE: 13 years & up

WORK OUT PARTNERS
Workout partners with and without disabilities will be matched to meet weekly at a time and day that works in both partners schedule. Strength training, cardiovascular equipment and aquatic exercises are all available to create the workout best for you.

Adaptive Swim Lessons
Lessons are individualized for people with special needs, and are designed to introduce and/or enhance swimming skills. Swimmers will be paired up with a trained volunteer and lessons will be overseen by a Water Safety Instructor.
NOTE: Please bring an attendant if you need personal care assistance outside of the water. For more information call Jenna at (970) 224-6125.
