Nurses’ Note Regarding the H1N1 (Swine) Flu
Although there is no increase of H1N1 (Swine Flu) illnesses in our schools, with all of the recent news reports about H1N1, we want you to be informed about the district’s H1N1 Flu Plan. Fortunately, for most people, H1N1 has typically been a mild to moderate disease. As things stand now, the vast majority of children who develop flu-like symptoms this fall will have a few miserable days, and nothing more.
However, MVUSD does have ready a full Pandemic Flu Plan that includes steps to be taken for prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. At this time we are primarily in the prevention, mitigation and preparedness stage of that plan. Should the H1N1 situation escalate, the district is ready to implement the response plan and parents will be notified.
Please be assured that the district is currently taking the following prevention/mitigation and preparedness steps:
• A District Task Force is monitoring the H1N1 virus and they are in constant communication with county, state and federal agencies to coordinate our response and preparedness.
• The district is following safety protocols established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Public Health Department and the U.S. Department of Education.
• Each school is following the best prevention and mitigation approach by practicing and encouraging healthy hygiene habits: Cough into the inside of your elbow. Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use hand sanitizers if soap and water is not available and avoid close contact with sick people.
• Parents are being asked to keep children home when they are sick. If they have a fever, keep them home for at least 24 hours after they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medicines (Motrin or Tylenol)
• School sites and buses are routinely cleaned as recommended by the Center for Disease Control, California Department of Education, Riverside County Public Health and other major organizations and soap dispensers are being kept filled.
• School staff is on high alert to identify potentially ill persons.
• District nurses are following up with sick individuals to determine the nature of their illness.
Additional information and H1N1 resources are available on the district website. Together, we can reduce the spread of the flu and other illnesses and help keep everyone healthy!

Everybody came together for our Kids and School! Even though times are hard these days, we were able to pull together and make our Book Fair very successful this season. We sold a grand total of $9,978. Our PTA approved to have the Scholastic’s profit divided evenly among the library and the classrooms. Each classroom received $115. The school library and grade levels each received $4,600. The teachers and Mrs. Lee were very busy ordering sets of books for our children. We are very happy to announce that all the books have been delivered. Our kids are enjoying them right now.
As parents, we took the opportunity to enjoy the time with our kids at our Book Fair. By doing this, we have encouraged them to read and build our school resources. Many children will benefit from our efforts for years to come.

Our PTA Jog-a-thon will take place on Friday, October 9th on the grass field. There’s still time to get your silent auction items in! Remember this is a great way to get a local business name in front of 740 Murrieta families!
There will be music, vendor booths and a silent auction (for parents) on the day of the event. Our very own Bronco and Rams athletes will be there to start each run and support us along the way!
We would really like our families to come out, enjoy the time with us, and even run with us!!
Let’s make our jog-a-thon and silent auction the best fundraiser ever for our children!
