The applique portions of the quilt are made using Lori's applique method. The link below to Week 1 of her previous Bloom Sew Along shows her applique technique.

Pieced Blocks The applique pieces on the churn dash and flag blocks need to be completed prior to piecing the blocks.

Churn Dash

Cut 1 square 41/2" x 41/2" from Fabric A. Cut 2 squares 3" x 3" from Fabric A. Cut 2 squares 3" x 3" from Fabric B. Cut 4 rectangles 11/2" x 41/2" from Fabric C. Cut 4 rectangles 11/2" x 41/2" from Fabric D.

Sew pieces A and B as shown in the Pinwheel.

Cut 2 squares 3" x 3" from Fabric A. Cut 2 squares 3" x 3" from Fabric B.

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of a Fabric A 3" square (not necessary if using the Seams Sew Easy).

With right sides together, place it on top of a Fabric B 3" square. Sew a 1/4" on each side of the diagonal line.

Cut down the center between the stitch lines. This will

create 2 half square triangles. Press open. Trim each to 21/2" square. Repeat to make 4 half square triangles.

Borders

Your seam allowances may vary so measure through the center of your quilt before cutting border pieces.

assembled, sew a cornerstone to each end of the top and bottom borders.

Sew border strips together end to end to get the length needed. Sew side borders first.

Inside Border Cut 4 strips 21/2" x WOF from gray sewing. Cut side borders 21/2" x 561/2". Cut top and bottom borders. 21/2" x 481/2". Cut 4 squares 21/2" x 21/2" from gray text for cornerstones. Sew to each end of the top and bottom borders.

Outside Border Cut 4 strips 61/2" x WOF from green bandana. Cut side borders 61/2" x 681/2". Cut top borders 61/2" x 721/2".

Binding Cut 3 strips 21/2" x WOF from blue plaid. Vintage trim is sewn with the binding.

Backing

Honeycomb Border
