Why do you think they were having a bad day?--Do you think they’ll be able to turn their day around? Why/why not?--Have you ever had a bad day? What made you feel better?--What are some ways we can turn a bad day into a good day?--Think about a time you had a very good day. What make this day so great? MATH--Interactive Game:Identify numbers and put them in order from greatest to least. Aloud: “Changes, Changes” by Pat Hutchins and number tracing online activity: MEDIA- -Read Aloud: “Little Blue and Little Yellow” challenge: Provide children with plastic cups and challenge them to see how high they can build, balancing the cups in different ways. Can they make a tower taller than they are? Can they make a tower taller than a family member?-Ask children how different types of weather may change things for example, if there is a puddle ask children to consider how the puddle might change if it becomes very cold outside or if it becomes very sunny and warm. Alternatively ask children to consider how everything in the outdoor space can change if it rains, snows, etc. -Invite children to go outside to observe how things change in the sun. If you put several items in the sun, what do you think will happen? Provide children with crayons, ice, marshmallows, etc. to place in the sun to observe the changes. How long do you think it will take for the items to melt? How do these objects change? MATH--Interactive Game:Count and collect bugs with George. LITERACY--Read Aloud: “Water is Water” of the day: H-Invite children to practice writing the letter H.-Invite children to search for 5 items in their house beginning with the letter H. Ask children to write down the names of these items in their journal.LIBRARY/ MEDIA- -Interactive Video: The Water Cycle -Music and Movement: Move like a state of Matter children to create the letter H out of blocks, legos, or playdough. Ask children to count how many blocks they used to create the letter. Invite children to build an uppercase and lowercase letter H.-Provide children with plastic cups with holes in the bottom. Invite children to play in water with these cups. Ask them to fill the cups with water then lift them out of the water and hold them up to make rain. Talk with children about changes in the weather and the changes that happen when it rains (objects get wet, dirt turns to mud, emotions may change, etc.). -Interactive Games: States of Matter children to practice writing or typing the following vocabulary words: matter, solid, liquid, gas, change, shape-Interactive video: Is it a solid or liquid? Aloud: “Froggy Bakes a Cake” of the day: U-Invite children to practice writing the letter U.-Invite children to search for 5 items in their house beginning with the letter U. Ask children to write down the names of these items in their journal.LIBRARY/ MEDIA- -Read Aloud: “Five Little Monkeys Bake a Cake” children with straws and playdough (to secure the straws). Invite children to use the straws to create different shapes or to build structures. The playdough can be used to secure the shapes at the angles. After children have created a shape ask them what they can do to transform the shape into a new shape. As they explore this question talk to them about the properties of the shapes.-Provide an assortment of materials for children to try to mix together such as oil and vinegar and flour and water. Invite children to predict what will happen when they combine the materials. Once they mix the materials, ask them to reflect on their predictions and what occurs. Do the materials change? How?-Encourage children to pretend they are a baker. Can you mix ingredients to make something? What will you make and how do you make it? -Invite children to look through cookbooks and attempt to follow one of the recipes using toys or other materials. Encourage children to “cook a meal” for their family.-Invite children to participate in an ice cream taste test. Which flavor is your favorite? Why/why not?--Why is it fun to get older?--What are some things you can’t do when you are little but you can do when you are big?-Invite children to draw a picture of themselves now and a picture of what they think they will look like when they are ten years old. What is different about you? MATH--Interactive Game: Comparing objects: same/different. Aloud: “It Looked Like Spilt Milk” children to practice writing number words with the corresponding number:--1/one, 2/two, 3/three, 4/four, 5/five, 6/six, 7/seven, 8/eight, 9/nine, 10/tenLIBRARY/ MEDIA-Interactive Game: Make the Cake with Peg -Invite children to create a variety of ramps and use different vehicles to race, predicting which one will go down the fastest and why.-Invite children to predict what might happen when you mix vinegar and baking soda. Ask them to record their predictions in their journal. Provide measuring spoons and encourage children to experiment with differing amounts of baking soda and vinegar. -Make popcorn with your child. Show them the popcorn kernels in advance and talk about how the kernels change when heated. Once they have practiced their name, invite them to begin practicing writing the names of their family members. Encourage children to identify each letter as they write. LIBRARY/ MEDIA-Read a book of your choice for 15 minutes.-Place a thermometer outside a window in your house. Invite children to observe the thermometer throughout the day and discuss the changes they notice. -Read Aloud: “I Like and I Don’t Like” children to cut out different shapes and label the shapes they cut. If we mix all these shapes can we create a new shape?-Provide children with straws and ask them to use these straws to create numbers. Then, ask children to count how many straws they used to create each number.-Invite children to create a picture of something that makes them happy (family, the park, games, etc.).
