4. Choose your favorite character in the film. Explain why you choose that person. Would you want to be that person? Why or why not?

5. Should we permit people to make human clones of themselves? What about if someone cannot have a child?

6. You and your partner are having a child and are at the genetic clinic pictured in the movie. What characteristics would you want for your child and what would you ask to be excluded. Why would you make those choices?

7. At the end of the film, you are told that the Doctor knew about Vincent all along. Why did the Doctor go along with the fraud? What would you have done if you were the doctor?

8. Imagine you are in your late 30’s of early 40’s and you want to have a child. You realize that you have a greater risk of having a child with Down’s syndrome. If you found out your child has this condition, what would you do? Explain.

10. During a scene in Gattaca a women submits a saliva sample from a recent kiss to screen the man’s DNA. If this was available now, would you screen the DNA of your date? Of your potential husband or wife?

11. Scientists can not separate sperm carrying x and y chromosomes and inseminate women with sperm of either an x or a y. Should sex selection for medical (such as sex linked diseases) and non-medical reasons be available? What might happen if everyone were allowed to select the sex of their child/children?
