The Greasy RagMay, 2021The monthly newsletter of the West Georgia Region of AACAPresident’s/Editor’s Message by Glenn NovakAs you know, we postponed our tour to the Budapest Cemetery due to the forecast of inclement weather. But, of course, they all got it wrong! Read the article below about the rescheduling arrangements and please join us if you think you might find it interesting.A new section for this newsletter contains information about some past but recent judged car shows and cruise nights that our members might find interesting. Please offer your congratulations to the recipients of awards for their fine cars. Also, I will be including a list of monthly birthdays in our newsletters if you have provided that information. Only the month and day will be used.Budapest Tour moved to MayDate will be one of the following: May 12, 13, 14 We will look at the weather forecasts on the 9th and 10th to select the best date and let you all know by email. If you are at all interested in going, try your best for now to keep the mornings free on these three dates. If there is ONE date you can NOT go, please email us. We hope we shall not have three solid days of rain!Departure Time: 10:30 am Meeting Location: TBADestination: Budapest Cemetery in Haralson CountyAdvantages: Some nice two-lane winding country roads with little traffic. All of our club members will get your message.Congratulations to our members:Congratulations are in order to Mike and Gwyneth Shotwell, whose 1940 Packard 120 convertible coupe won its First Junior Award on April 10, 2021 at the AACA National Meet in Concord, NC. It is the result of a beautiful, full restoration of which the owners can be very proud. This car is now eligible to be judged in the Senior Class at the AACA National Meet this fall in Greenville, SC.Bill Hearnburg took his restored 1957 Ford Skyliner retractable hardtop down to Newnan on April 11th for a large cruise-in sponsored by Blood, Sweat and Gears. Judged by a select group of that club’s members, his car took Best of Show and Bill brought home a hand-made trophy. This car is a magnet for spectators who are always intrigued by its wild and crazy top mechanism.Food for Thought: This year, 2021, is our club’s turn to host the annual 4 club picnic. We get to pick the date (a Saturday) and we provide the meat dish. All others bring side dishes. Please provide me with some input as to your preference for a month to look at as well as a location. If we stick with November, we need something inside. In the summer, we could do an outdoor picnic under a pavilion, but we need something free or very cheap. This event will not happen by itself. Our club has a treasury for the food but we do not have a clubhouse or banquet hall. I would guess we could expect around 100 people. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? I do not think it is too early to nail down a date so we can let the other clubs know and hopefully avoid conflicts and RESERVE a venue. I am told that October and December are not good. So, we have the summer or November to consider. Call me at 770-832-6353 or email me at fifteezfan@ to share your ideas. April/May Member Birthdays:Mary DuncanApril 30John HeilmanMay 19Newnan Tornado victims receive Cruise-In proceeds by Glenn NovakThe car club known as Blood, Sweat and Gears charges no admission to its monthly cruise-ins around the metro Atlanta area. They do, however, gladly accept donations under a labeled tent, with the recipient being a different, worthy group each time.At its Sunday, April 11th event in a large bowling alley parking lot in Newnan, GA, the group raised over $4000 for victims of the terrible tornado damage in Newnan. It was impossible to miss all the television news coverage of this disaster, and surely these funds will be much appreciated. With over 150 vehicles present at this cruise-in (originally slated for the day before but efficiently rescheduled due to the threat of rain on Saturday), it was a great success with participants and spectators enjoying a variety of cars and trucks under a perfect sky. We salute this car club for a job very well done.Below (and at top of newsletter) are a few photos from this event. For Sale:A former member of the Golden City Cruisers Car Club has decided that it’s time to sell their collector car and, a Harley Davidson Dynaglide Motorcycle. For sale is a 1995 Jaguar, XJS 2+2.
