Harp Seal

The Harp Seal spends most of its life in the sea fishing for food.

Habitat – The Harp Seal can be found along the shore lines of the Arctic and the North Atlantic Oceans.

Size – The Harp Seal is about 1.7 metres long and weighs about 130 kilos.

Appearance – The Harp Seal has short thick white fur with black patches. They are excellent swimmers and have short front flippers and powerful wide hind flippers.

Diet – The Harp Seal is a carnivore (meat eater). It eats mainly fish and shell fish. The shells are crushed with their back teeth.

Young - The babies are called cubs and are white all over.

Interesting fact – The Harp Seal doesn’t chew its food. They swallow it whole.
