Harvard referencing uses the author and the date of the work in the main body of the text, and then has a reference list at the end of the essay which contains the references cited in alphabetical order by author.

Book

Surname, Initial. (Date) Title. Place of publication: Publisher

The title can be in italics or underlined. However you must be consistent throughout your work.

McFluff, J. (2001) Brief history of underpants. London: Open University Press

Journal article

Surname, Initial. (Date) ‘Title of article’. Name of journal, volume number (part), page numbers.

Bloggs, J. (2003) ‘Does chocolate promote effective study’. The Journal of Chocolate, 5(1), 22-27.
