|JOB PURPOSE |

| |

|The Flying Start Leader will be responsible for the playgroup sessions to ensure safe, stimulating group play and to provide for the needs of the whole |

|child. |

|This will involve planning, preparing and delivering play based activities appropriate for |

|children aged 2 – 3 years. |

|Planning for the individual child based on the Flying Start Guidance Annex B. |

|The assessment, monitoring and recording of individual children’s development in |

|conjunction with the Flying Start Advisory Teacher. |

|Responsible for the organisation and development of the Flying Start Playgroup |

|Assistants including the allocation and monitoring of work, appraisal and training. |

| |

|PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES |

| |

|Provide safe, stimulating group play to meet the social, linguistic, creative, physical, imaginative, emotional needs of each child. |

|Organise and manage appropriate learning environment and resources. |

|Select and prepare resources to take account of the children’s interests, language and cultural backgrounds |

|Manage liaison with parents and other relevant bodies to gather children information, such as Health Visitors. |

|With guidance from the Flying Start Advisory Teacher plan appropriate play based activities for individual children. |

|Monitor, evaluate and adjust individual plans as appropriate as the children reach their next stage in their development. |

|Manage record keeping systems and processes and record progress and achievements in activities systematically and providing evidence of range and level of |

|progress and attainment. |

|Take responsibility for the development and implementation of appropriate behaviour management strategies appropriate for the age and ability of the |

|children in the group. |

|Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child’s attendance. |

|Provide and maintain equality of opportunity for all children and their families. |

|Ensure the equipment is set out before each session commences and is cleared away after the children have left. |

|Encourage and enable parental involvement with their child. Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all children within the playgroup. |

|Encourage all children to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all children in activities |

|Ensure there is a good, happy atmosphere at each session. |

|Take time to listen and respond to children and encourage them to develop. |

|Provide information and advice to enable the children to make choices about their own behaviour |

|Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self reliance |

|Comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data |

|protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person. |

|Ensure the children are supervised at all times. |

|Ensure the Accident and Incident Book is filled in for every accident. |

|Manage the Flying Start Playgroup Assistants appointed to the Playgroup |

|Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to lead, advise and support others. |

|Hold regular team meetings with managed staff. |

|Attend training that is organised by the Advisory staff. |

| |

|PERSON SPECIFICATION |

|Previous experience: |

|Knowledge of development two to three year olds. |

|Two years’ experience of working in a playgroup setting. |

| |

|Qualifications: |

|Level 5 qualification in childcare |

|Ability to communicate and maintain friendly relationships with children to work on own initiative, to lead a team and to cope with a busy playgroup |

|setting. |

|Be prepared to seek guidance when necessary. |
